the driver mod

i find myself in vegas for a week for work. (tough life, i know) and instead of table or slot games or clubbing or steaks with shaved truffles on them i decide to spend some cash on the driver mod with a few laps on a short track on one of the racing experiences out here.

i've done a couple of lead-follow laps in my since departed brz as well as a ride along in a 5th gen vette at the national corvette museum track close to me before so its not the first time on a track. i chose a cayman gts and drove 7 laps around the track after a driver info session and a video-game type session.

it was really great to be behind such a neutral and capable car, which felt like my old car on steroids. learning good braking technique (with brakes to be able to easily stand up to it), repeatedly trying to see and actually hit the racing line and stomping on the gas on the way out of turns with 340hp instead of 200 was exhilarating. if anything, being in a car with higher limits in a learning type of environment will be beneficial for when i hit the track in the future in a hopefully soon to come new brz.

The Cayman is not nearly as good of a "driver mod" car as the GT86 because the Cayman is really hard to drive at the limit (like any mid-engined car). The GT86 on the other hand is much easier to drive at the limit so you have many more opportunities to learn how to handle the limit.

Learn on the GT86... Then, add a supercharger and see that pretty much no Cayman ever passes you on the track because its way easier to drive a 300HP GT86 faster.
