VA EMISSION

I will get header and a cat back exhaust, but wondering... Will my car pass VA state emission?

I have- Ptuning turbo, and I think they put 3" overpipe and frontpipe
want to get
-UEL header
-Perrin cat back non-resonated or resonated or other 3"
-meth/water
-ecutek tune

Anyone with similar set up in VA?

What header is the turbo kit using?

As far as emissions, touch any of the cats and it's game over from a Clean Air Act standpoint. I'm keeping all my stock parts when the time comes, but - being in Colorado - I could also register the car in Colorado Springs or somewhere without required emissions testing.

If you want to pass VA emissions, it really depends on the shop you go to. You will A) need to make sure the the emissions code is tuned out so you don’t throw a code. And B) make sure they don’t look under the car to check for cats. It’s really luck of the draw. Additionally NoVA recently started doing on-road emissions tests that you a laser and infrared to essentially “sniff” your exhaust. I wouldn’t bank on ever passing that and having to find the right shop to use.

I currently still run 2 cats, but aftermarket hi-flo through JDL, but atleast they are visible.

Your best bet would be to talk to pTuning and find out who they would recommend to see for inspection with their turbo kit installed. I’m sure they know someone.

Side Note. Header wise, if you want the best performance out of pTuning’s turbo kit. Get their 4-1 EL Header. It’s one of the best performing out there.

you should have checked that before you spent money on a turbo kit. brutal. for better or worse, I live in hillbilly land and there are no emissions checks or requirements. I'm going to be a student in another state but I'll be keeping my home state of california and my nonexistent smog testing. always keep the stock headers, overpipe, and frontpipe just in case

that on road emissions stuff sounds like a dream come true. There are people on here that pass actual emissions yearly without having any cats. Our engines are tiny and really clean even without cats.

The advantage too is, that even if you fail, there’s no penalty, you just go do a normal emissions inspection. If you pass, you pay online and go about your business.

In NY they have a rule that you have to pay a certain amount (around $500) to attempt to fix emissions faults. Does this apply to people who have egregious faults like tubros and such? I think I'd pay that $500 than try to jump through hoops if I was in the situation.

So the road emission checker will be the killer. I have heard stories about they take photo to enforce and they are moved around lol.
Yes u can find a shop who may pass emission without cat.

I think I will get a eq 4to1 header with cat.
What do ya all think?
Recommendations for headers and catback exhaust?
-perrin 3" seems the best so far

So theoretically for rapid pass you just drive through it and its not really attended correct? If so whats stopping you from driving through with the clutch in and higher speed and basically having the engine idle and mess up the calculation? OR even crazier if the car is off a few seconds through it? Or if you edit your tune to have a much lower idle than it usually does and then clutch in or neutral and go through it and purposely lean the car our to pass?

Does it just compare it to other FRS/BRZ/86 ?

Yeah, passing emission should be less problem, but "on road sniffers will give me tickets" (I have only one cat on the stock manifold now.)

If I get emission exemption, I maybe okay. I don't know how the machines work though. It sounds like they have a set number and will issue citation no matter what, and exempted vehicles could get citations every single time. They will have to prove each time? I think

What about 4-2-1 HKS header?
What 4-1 header do you recommend?
