Pulley o ring

I have 40k miles on my frs, and I'm going to swap for a lightweight pulley. Do I need to buy a new o ring before I attempt to out the new one on, or can I just use the old one?

First off ....... I wouldn't change the pulley.

Why not .....?? ...... because there ain't nutten wrong with the one that came with the car.......in addition, I understand it's a pain to change out.

However, if I was to change out the pulley, I would use a new "O" ring ......

I called the dealer and ordered one for $2, it will be here tomorrow. The only reason I'm doing it, is to squeeze every little bit of hp out of the car. I have all bolt ons, minus drive shaft and e85.

It's not necessary, but it wouldn't hurt. Read EVERY article you can find about changing out about swapping out pulleys before you attempt it.

Especially THIS ONE.

Good luck!

A lightweight pully will not increase HP. It will increase acceleration due to less rotating mass. A smaller pulley will reduce parasitic drag that will increase available HP to send to the wheels.

Just remove the pulley altogether. You don't need it.

It's true. No pulley = less weight!
I stopped filling up with gasoline months ago too since that stuff is apparently flammable and I'm not risking burning my car just to have some stupid gas in it.
I think I've heard of removing the windshield too since that has to be pretty heavy. Seatbelts, steering wheels, brake pads...all extra weight.

Exactly what percentage of the rotating mass does the pulley represent once the car is in gear? Since you are now rotating everything from the pulley to the tires the 4 ounce drop in weight is pretty meaningless.
The reduction of parasitic drag would be so minuscule that it would be beyond measuring much less have any impact on available HP.

I did the pulley kit with crank, water pump and alternator which shaves off about 5 lbs total . I can't say it increased HP but it was definitely noticeable how it seemed to rev up and down quicker.
I also dropped about 5 lbs on each wheel recently and that was even a more noticeable seat of the pants increase of speed. I could care less if it adds anything measurable,
all I know is it sure feels like it did something every time I take away parasitic weight.

Revs and in gear are not the same thing. The second it is in gear the pulley weight means nothing compared to everything else being turned. If you think you can feel it then you have a great imagination.

Now that would work on a 1/4 mile drag strip ........

It has been calibrated to an accuracy of +/- .05 newtons(fig) by a local backyard scientist I found on Craigslist! I can tell which way the Earth is rotating if I sit on the ground and close my eyes.
