Stored my BRZ for the winter :(

So today was the official storage day for my BRZ. Washed and dried it, put Sta-bil fuel stabilizer in the gas tank, started it and let it idle for 5 minutes, disconnected the battery and hooked it up to a battery tender in my basement, and put a car cover on it. It will be stored in my driveway for the winter.

Since this is the first time I'm ever storing a vehicle, did I miss anything? Will I uncover it in the Spring and find creatures living inside it? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you are rural or live where there are mice, rats or squirrels you may want to put some bait out under the car. They love engine bays as winter homes and will build nests and chew wires. Other than that you did everything you really need to do to store for a few months.

Bait under the car? Won't that attract creatures? I live in an area with not many mice, rats, or squirrels.

Poison bait. If you don't have many I would just do a quick check for tracks around the car every once in a while.

This car won't see rain or snow, especially with all the salt they use in Pennsylvania on the roads. I have a truck that I use as my daily driver and for the winter.

Not sure if poison would be the best since you don't have control over where the rodent dies. The rodent can ingest the poison then die somewhere in the car or it can store the poison somewhere else to consume later on.

I store my car outside during the winter, too. Initially I thought about storing it in a climate controlled garage but at an average cost of $450/month, fk it.


Here's my routine:
-fill up with Shell 91 (car uses 91, and I use fuel from Petro Canada for my daily)
-over-inflate tires (some people even put soft mats under their tires in fear of flat spotting but I didn't use any and I didn't have any problems)
-wash & wax car
-air recirculation (I always put it on air recirc when parking)
-plug exhaust and add a note to your steering wheel/seat so you don't forget to remove it when you drive the car in spring and get CO poisoning
-use silicone lubricant around door, hood and trunk hinge
-use wheel chucks and leave car in neutral without hand-brake
-put bounty sheets in engine bay, interior to deter rodents (I might try Irish Spring soap bars this winter since the bounce sheets lose their scent in weeks
-unplug battery
-elevate car (so I can easily shovel around it) and put car cover on, then put a tarp over the car cover

The bounce sheets and soap don't scare them off either. They don't care about smells. I have seen them use the sheets for bedding and chew up the soap.

One the other thing I would do is inflate the tires to about 40-45 psi. This will help stop dead/flat spots. Not as much of an issue on modern tires but at the very least will help with natural air seepage ensuring the tires do not get too low.

My Blue Scoob has been in the garage for the last few days since we got a few inches of snow and the accompanying salt. We are in SE PA so the snow isn't too bad.

It's the first winter for the Subaru. I did get winter tires for it so I plan on driving it in the cold. But, when the weather gets inclement I take the old pickup to work.

I don't expect the BRZ to last forever, but that isn't going to stop me from babying it.

I don't know about that other stuff, but this stuff works. One bucket keeps them out of my house, shop, garage, trucks and, my car. It's expensive though; $75 for a small bucket.


Regular traps and the little packets of poison did not work. I had rats living on my engine eating my wires. I had to clean rat crap off the intake manifold every day!


Got a bucket of this stuff and was rat free for 3 months. (yes that's like $300 per year)
