funny random thought...
Googled Ken Gushi today and this was the first thing that popped up on the right of Google Search...
"Ken Gushi is one of Japan's top competitors in the sport of drifting. Born in Okinawa, Japan, but raised in Los Angeles, he was taught by his father Tsukasa Gushi at the age of 13 with a Toyota AE86." Is Takumi from Initial D based on Ken Gushi hAHA minus the LA part

Takumi is supposed to actually be loosely based of of Tsuchiya in Japan. Initial D was created long before Ken Gushi was even born....

Not really random. He was sort of marketed that way when he entered Formula D several years agao.

But seriously, according to Wiki, Initial D was serialized in 1995, when Ken was 9 years old. I speculate that Ken's father saw Initial D and decided to train his son the same way Bunta trained Takumi.
