Issue with wifi obd2 dongle
Hello,
I recently purchased an elm327 wifi obd2 dongle and use it with the DashCommand app on an iphone. I would like to disconnect the device whenever I'm not driving, because the dongle stays active & relatively warm if I leave it plugged in. The only issue I have with this is that every time I disconnect the device, I have to go through the following steps: (1) Forget the wifi network on my phone (2) Plug the dongle in (3) Turn the car on (4) Connect to the wifi (5) Set the static IP address & subnet mask If I don't do this, I am able to connect to the dongle's wifi network but the DashCommand app isn't able to connect to the interface. As you can imagine, it would be ideal if I could disconnect and reconnect the device and not have to re-configure the network every time. Has anyone found a solution to this problem? I can't tell if this is an issue with the app or the device, but I can't seem to find anything online about this behavior. |

I use DashCommand with a Kiwi3 over Bluetooth.
1. Plug in dongle 2. Open app and tap the Connect button Of course it's a $99 dongle instead of $15, but it works reliably and has a faster data update rate for use with Harry's Lap Timer. |

not sure if this is for iphone, but download an app called Tasker. It can be programmed for what you want

^I would agree with Tasker but his first sentence mentions iPhone. Maybe IFFT can do it?
I always found bluetooth OBD2 readers to be really slow and problematic, so for the BRZ I just went with an OBDLink SX USB cable plugged into my Android headunit (~$25). It gives instant updates with no lag compared to the bluetooth types. It also goes to sleep when not in use to save battery. |

Right, my issue is isolated to iPhones/wifi obd2 adapters as far as I know. If I leave the dongle plugged in 24/7 there are no issues connecting.
The problem is if I disconnect the device, I have to "forget" the OBD2 wifi network on my phone, then reconfigure the IP/gateway in order for DashCommand to connect. |

Issue with wifi obd2 dongle
You really shouldn't leave it plugged in as I fried 2 of those dongles. 1 bluetooth and the other wifi. Also, someone could reset your ecu if you leave it plugged in and someone has a program like dashcommand. I did that to a friend as a prank but I told him about it after.
