Would You Buy A Demo BRZ?

So I put a deposit in on a BRZ that the dealership said was coming in the next week, brand new. I get a call yesterday saying that they got word that the car is a listed as a dealership demo and has 150 miles on it and by the time it gets here about 300 miles (they are driving it down from new jersey).

They said the if the car was titled under the dealership than it will be sold as certified used vehicle with an extended 6 year power train unlimited miles warranty. I plan on renegotiating because I was expecting a new car but whether they are gonna talk is questionable. We all know that the car was driven hard as a test drive vehicle during what's supposed to be it's break in period.

I read all of those methods about break in whether to go hard or not. So who knows really how much wear and tear there actually is and what will happen down the line. My question is what would you guys do? Would you take the car as is and hopefully get a better price or order a new one?

Hard to say without seeing the car. Look for wear and tear. If it's in great shape and you get a discount, the warranty should cover anything that breaks. I plan on driving my new BRZ rather hard without babying it in the first 10 miles, but that's just me.

for me, it would depend on the price. if they're willing to knock a couple thousand off the price (doubt it), then i'd get the demo car. i have a feeling the most they'll subtract is $1,000, but it never hurts to ask. if that's the case, i'd rather just wait for a brand new car.

realistically, you won't see any problems with the car even if it has been floored before the car hit 1k miles. it's just one of those things where it never hurts to be more cautious about something.

If it only has 300 miles and they're throwing in a CPO warranty, I'd go for it.

I'd check to make sure it has all the standard features too. The demo car I saw didn't have the telescoping feature.

Could also be a pre-production vehicle. Unlike other brands such as Honda and Toyota, Subaru does sell off their pre-production models opposed to just crushing them.

So why exactly the dealer that had it as a demo decided to dump it instead of selling it themselves?
I'd skip it. Unless the price is a couple of grand below invoice for this model.

I wouldn't.
The cheapest extended warranty a Toyota dealer offered me was $999 (I still didn't get it).
To me, losing first 300 miles on this car does not worth $999.
I would consider if they would give me extended warranty + $1000 off of MSRP.

Depends on the price, it should be priced at LEAST 1,000 of MSRP. As the Toyota sales rep said when he was trying to sell me on gap insurance "the moment your car is driven off the lot it's worth drops" if they are driving down from another dealership then in my mind it's a used car and should be priced as such.

If the exterior and interior are in good shape then I'd consider it. I'd be less worried about people redlining from test driving than I would be about someone driving 150 miles at a constant RPM.

300 miles is nothing, the wear and test from 300 miles of test driving is not going to significantly impact the car in any way

I would beat a demo.

Just saying, I'm sure 99% of test-drivers do too.

Be careful.

Nope, BioRage has it correct. Demo cars are beaten on. I wouldn't buy one.
