Can someone educate me on rivnuts/nutserts etc
So I'm installing RB v1 fenders, and wanted to use rivet nuts so the fenders can be taken off, in case you need to, for whatever reason.
I got some from a friend who works as a mechanic, so didn't pay much attention to them, since they are M5-sized, which is what I need. The problem is, I've only done one front fender, and I've had four of them start spinning when trying to tighten the screws that hold the fender. I'm using a tool that another friend had, for rivets/rivnuts. Looks pretty much like so: ![]() The nuts are aluminium and have a grip range of 0.5-3mm. Do I need steel nuts? A different grip range? I have no idea. I can't see a way how they should be installed differently either, so not sure what to do here..

Just like in the video link posted earlier... I don't have that fancy tool in the video though... I just file the notch in with a small file.

You can try to retighten the rive nut to increase the pull on the backing, sometimes a small burr or even paint will keep the nut from pulling all the way tight.

Tried that, but on at least one of them, the threads got ruined. These were pretty soft aluminium rivnuts to be honest. Going to try steel ones.

Never use bare aluminum against bare steel. They will react and can corrode fast.

Excellent! I learned that lesson the hard way several decades ago.

This may be too much info... but just in case anynone is curious about this kind of thing... I figured I'd post it since Galvanic corrosion was brought up.
