![]() FT86CLUB Homepage Featured Story The success of BRZ sales is being experienced in all markets, with the latest being Australia where the car just went on sale overnight on the Subaru webpage. Per AUSmotive: Subaru’s BRZ sports car online selling initiative has proved a massive success, with the car sold-out after just three hours of going “live” on the web. With just 201 cars available through to New Year, huge online demand temporarily stalled Subaru’s website, but after it went “live” around 1245 AEST, the first online customer took just 20 minutes to complete the process, from choosing accessories, completing their contract and paying their deposit. Among the amazing BRZ online statistics:
Details of the car were only revealed on Friday, including:

So why can't we (us Americans) purchase cars online? I would love to never deal with a dealer again.

You can. You just do the build your car thing on thier website and the vehicle specs go to the nearest dealer. Then the "online" salesman will email you. If you want to lay down and pay sticker I'm sure it's minimal dealing with them and it's not face to face. Pretty close to what they have.

First customer took 20 minutes to complete their order, but within the first 5 minutes, they had 8 orders already...
Uh, how does that work? What do they consider an "order" if they had 8 in the first 5 minutes, but it took 20 minutes to complete one? |

I noticed the thread for this just yesterday. Pretty amazing but also disappointing for the Aussies hoping for a BRZ this year.

It sounds good, but was one of the biggest fiascos you can imagine. The website went down about 11:45am and had limited functionality for the rest of the day.
If you could get a page to serve (took me 2 hours), the postcode function in the first step didn't work properly and you couldn't progress. The people who placed orders were those with postcodes that came up by default after the first digit. Subaru in the USA appears to have handled things far more professionally, as did Toyota in Australia. I'm an 18 year / 7 car Subaru person, but am now getting a Toyota 86 and will never look at another Subaru product again. Too many egos at Inchcape (Subaru Aust) who put their supposed marketing genius above any thought of customer service. . |
