engineering explained: Can gearing make your car faster. video proof

Thought this video should be posted. I know there's been some threads regarding gear changes and there's always people that claim it doesn't matter. This video goes pretty in-depth with results on what happens when you change the gear ratio on a Honda S2000, not the same car, but results would be similar.

This is not a proof that a shorter differential is always better. He chose on purpose to test the range 10-60 mph, because it favors the 4.44 differential. If he chose to test the range 10-65 mph or 10-68 mph, the results would be entirely different because with the 4.44 differential he would have to use the 3rd gear. Whatever kind of advantage would be almost lost in this 5 or 8 mph difference. I've already explained this to him a long time ago, but he refuses to accept it.

The only thing I can agree with him is that with this change the car is more fun.

More mechanical torque is always nice but only helps to a certain point. Too much gearing could be bad. I may just reduce my tire diameter 7.51% and save some $$ lol
