Bringing winter tires over from another car? - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

I have a Kia Rio right now with Winter Tires on, and I apologize but I don't remember the exact Tire specs apart from the fact they are R15's. (and also, would 15"s be too small for winter tires on an FR-S?)
I'll update the thread once I get a chance to look at them again.

I was debating giving the tires away as my lease is up in June, and obviously I'm hopeful to get an FR-S.

But then I thought, can I just remount these tires onto appropriate steel rims for the FR-S come winter so I don't need to buy new winter tires? These tires still have a lot of tread on them (I don't drive my car much).

What would I need to know? The dimensions for the winter tires of course, and then I'd need to know the right type of Steel Rim type appropriate for the FR-S? My Rio is a 4 bolt, for the wheels.

I tried to see if there was a thread that would help cover this but I wasn't quite sure where to begin, when it comes to remounting tires onto new rims.

Is there a specific thing I should be looking for, to make sure the steel rims will fit the 5 bolt pattern for the FR-S or am I overthinking this?

As in, just bring my winter tires/rims into a tire shop, and say, I need new steel rims to mount these tires on for an FR-S?

Using TireRacks website, they dont offer a 15" package for our cars, so not likely you can use the 15" winter tires. 16" is the smallest, likely due to the front brake clearance.

Some people have fit 15s, but it'd take some research to find the right specs and you're probably pretty limited on options.

Just get some 16s and 205/55 winters. Bugeye WRX wheels are a great option for winters.

According to this all Kia Rio's have 4-bolt wheels.

4-hole wheels don't fit on 5-bolt cars like the 86 unless you want to spend a bunch of money on spacers. Maybe possible but likely not worth it, sell 'em and get the right wheels.

I know the 4 bolt rims won't fit, as I was planning on remounting the tires themselves onto new steel rims for the FR-S, but I wasn't sure if there are 15" 5-bolt steel rims that will work on the FR-S, but it does seem like 15"'s are too small for the FR-S.

Not worth it, the only way to do it cleanly would be to do a 4 pot brake swap up front and run a rally wheel

I believe 15s are only possible at the rear of the car, and that's only with some extremely careful wheel selection.

Yup. There is a couple 86s on their website with 15s on.

Also a rocket bunny in California is running 15 Watanabes from his AE86. He also did 5x100 to 4x114.3 spacer.
