I need of some advice with new JDL kit install issues
So apparently I'm a glutton for punishment because not only is this my first FI install, I also went with the new JDL kit which has damn near zero documentation or guidance online. Yes yes, I know, I'm an idiot, let's get past that.
So, the install itself went smooth minus a few headaches. I'm pretty certain I have everything installed properly. I was extremely careful when it came to any sort of lines and did a ton of research and video watching before even attempting any of it. New oil, new coolant, etc. I started Saturday around 1pm and finished everything around 11am Sunday. After the kit was in, I threw in new injectors and a fuel pump (back to me being an idiot) but I had made sure my fuel lines were de-pressurized and my fuel pump fuse was out. Brought up my laptop with my Ecutek. I then realized Moto-East never actually emailed me my tune despite me providing all of my car specs around 4 weeks ago - mistake number 3 for me. Also my dongle doesn't appear to have been licensed so even if I did have a tune I was SOL, but that's not so much my fault. I figured I may as well see if the car will start - I didn't plan on driving it until I could at least get a base map and then baby it to work and back without hitting boost until the real tune arrived. Needless to say it would not start. The engine did sputter to life for a moment and then it died. After that all it would do it crank. It was here I assumed it was probably because of the injectors providing too much fuel for the stock ECU to account for. I put the stock injectors back in and also the stock fuel pump to be safe. Same deal, first time the engine almost turned over before it died, following attempts were just useless cranking. I did notice though that every time I de-pressurized the fuel rail the following attempt to start the car would reproduce the attempts where it almost starts. So now I'm stuck, which sucks because I'll have to hitch rides to work and back but I can't really complain since I did it to myself. Any ideas? The only thing I could come up with was maybe flooding the engine from the bigger injectors but I don't know how likely that is. I'm in Georgia around the Augusta area, so if you live nearby you're welcome to drop by to lend a hand - I'd really appreciate it. I was also planning on calling 86Speed (bought the kit from them) since they've had some successful installs and see if I could get some guidance. Probably call JDL too tbh. Pretty much banging my head on a wall in defeat with now frustrating this is lol. If anything I'll just pull it all out and hope the car will start stock and pay a shop to do it (which I really didn't want to do because money) Last edited by voidn0ise; 04-16-2017 at 08:17 PM. |

Have you changed the MAP sensor? If so, that'll be the cause.

Edit: Replaced with the stock MAP sensor, now the car will start every time I try however the engine won't run for longer than like 2 seconds before it cuts off. Injectors? Fuel pump? Or do you think it could be something else. Really don't think it's the pump though since the lines are pressurizing, unless the stock pump just doesn't enough and in that case I can throw in the aftermarket again. Won't be able to do any of this until tomorrow afternoon. Last edited by voidn0ise; 04-16-2017 at 10:59 PM. |

did you mess with the spark plugs at all?or maybe forgot to plug something back in during the install? the issue sounds fuel/spark related..and my guess is you're maybe flooding the motor..
can you hear if the fuel pump is priming when you turn the car to on? (but not start it) |

You need to stop trying to start your car until you have your tune.

Did you disconnect the DI ECU? The car may fire up on the PI but if the DI ECU isn't earthed it won't be able to use them. One of the 3 bolts holding it in place is it's correct earth.
That's a little unfair, there's no reason why it shouldn't fire up on the stock tune if the stock fueling and ignition is working correctly.

Hello
Have you messed with the MAF sensor install? as if its in a new airbox or there's a different exit from the stock airbox then this can be enough to screw up the MAF calibration, is there any MAF wiring changes? as the ECU starts on the MAP signal and then switches to the MAF once the engine is running |

Good news to report, so I had left my ecu unbolted for easy injector access since I thought that was the issue and forgot, bolted it back on after work and the car started no problem. Funny because I work so much with electricity yet it 100% did not occur to me. Gonna take a look at all the lines and make sure there's no leaks. Anything specific I should really pay attention for?
