Potential new FR-S owner

Hey guys,

I just got back from putting a (refundable) deposit on a used 2013 red FR-S 6MT with 35,000 miles.

Car drove fine, nothing really stood out compared to other Twins I have driven. Going to go back on Saturday with pre-approved financing from my credit union and look at the car in the daylight.

They are asking for $15500 which is lower than most, although it's winter still and this is a small used lot not a new car franchise

Mods include CF shark-fin, Quad exhaust tips, tinted windows. There's also a sub-installed in the trunk which I will either have them keep for a cheaper price or just sell...it takes up pretty much the whole trunk

Is this a good deal for a late 2013 model? I will be having them take the car to a Toyota dealer for an inspection but I figure I can knock off a few hundred if they remove the aftermarket stereo

Hope to have one of my own very soon!

I've been looking for awhile and all the good deals for these seem to be automatic so finding a manual at this price seems almost too good to be true

Look like you have covered all the bases and the price is pretty good for your region. If it checks out at inspection you should be driving it soon.

Yeah I've been doing my research. This is a great resource, I've wanted one since they've came out and now that I have been saving and building my credit for two years after college it's time.

This is going to be my second Subaru that isn't badged as such! Lmao

make sure all the recalls were taken care of. Wasn't there something about one being absolutely imperative and they would not do it once it was out of warranty? Didn't this just come up recently? Only way I would know about it is reading it on here.

Yes I have a Saabaru (no turbo though) lol

What's the important recall? If it's a recall don't they have to fix it out of warranty? Or do you mean TSB?

That's a pretty good deal. I paid similar money for mine with under 25k miles.

the 2013's had a TSB for cam sprocket issues and ecu fault code p0016-p0019. I just got mine fixed under warranty. Barely. 52k miles 4 years. cutoff is 60k 5 years. And it's a very common issue with the '13s around the same miles as mine. My dealer even said so. If I was in the market, I would avoid the '13s like mine unless the tsb was performed or something.

Well I am hoping for the best on the ppi. This is my first RWD car so I am easing into it

Cars I have previously I've had/ driven

2001 Sienna (dad totaled)
2001 Prius (first car that I drove, was a beater for a few years but junked due to rust and my sister's neglect)
2004 Prius (worst car ever I would have rather had the 2001 but my mom gave me the '04 eventually the battery died and it wasn't worth fixing)

After those miserable piles I started buying my own cars:
1999 Maxima Se (miss it would love another)
2005 Saabaru 5MT (current ride)

I love that the FR-S is a Toyota and a Subaru at the same time because I'd probably be going for a newer WRX if the twins didn't exist. This way I can keep my Saabaru since it's only at 100k

That was an issue for early 2013s. And the issue arrived on other twins within a few thousand miles. Whole common enough to be known there are plenty of 2013s on the road unaffected. If it is in the TSB VIN range then maybe something to consider

There are two FRS recalls:
1) Some ATs had a wire off that allowed you to remove the key while running. If you can't pull your key out then you are OK.
2) Recall from Southeast Toyota only. Added accessories not indicated on weight capacity sticker so sticker reads 5 to 10 pounds light.

One for Subaru:
1)Engine Control Module Reprogramming Vehicles Registered in the States of
CA, CT, MA, MD, ME, NJ, NY, OR, PA, RI, VT, WA. Reprogram ECU the monitor engine coolant temperature better and turn CEL on if not reaching operating temp.

None earth shattering. If you bought your car from a dealer and it is registered through Toyota/Subaru you will receive notifications of any recalls.

TSBs are NOT recalls in any form. They are simply instructions to the Techs on how to fix known issues. The car needs to be exhibiting the problem when brought in for them to fix it. Even then they are in no way forced to do the work even if in warranty. You can not just take your car in and say "there is a TSB so fix it" based just on the TSB ( although some dealers have been reported to do it).
