Greetings all. I have a strange problem. 2013 automatic FRS. Here it is... Car is running. When I move the shift lever when parked slightly to the right to move from PARKED, there is an audible click. You can feel the snap in the steering column. I recently had the car in for the ignition lock recall and everything was fine until today. Any ideas ??? Steers fine. It's just when you want to get going that this relay snap occurs.

I'm just guessing (since I don't have an AT) that the sound is coming from the mechanism that unlocks the steering wheel when the car is taken out of park .....

OK..here goes. Put the key in ignition, do nothing, shift lever can be moved to the right but no click. First position on ignition, car not running, move lever to right solenoid fires. Turn on car, car running, steering wheel freely moves...move lever, "CLICK." Now I start feeling around the column and hold onto the ignition key... move the lever, "CLICK." Turn to acc position and move leve "CLICK" and you can really feel it on the key. This was just looked at for the interlock problem on the ignition. Just wondering how normal this is. I can't recall this "CLICK" before . Anybody pull their column apart that can give me an idea as to what this solenoid is doing. It doesn't lock the column that's for sure. ANy help is appreciated. Everything is working it's just one of those things....

OK...I'll go with normal. I've been looking at diagrams and they're no real help. Toyota dealer was baffled. Chimp hit it though. Move the lever from left to right in Park...CLICK.
THANKS ! |
