Your opinions please...

So I am picking up my BRZ next week and the dealership has offered to give me free undercoating ($550 value) free if I take their 3M protection package which is $949 but I don't really think the undercoating is necessary on most new cars especially since I won't be driving this through the winter it more of a weekend toy. (I have a company vehicle for my daily) but I do want the 3M since rock chips are horrible here in Edmonton. I reached out to a few reputable shops and got quotes for much less closer on average around $600 to have the same 3M package installed so I am leaning towards that. What do you think oh great forum what would you do given those two options?

Don't take the undercoating as I hear that actually causes more problems than it solves.

Skip the 3M at the dealer and go straight to reputable shops. Just make sure you get the FULL hood and not a partial hood.

the actual cost of undercoating is usually around 150-200 bucks but the retail price is usually closer to that 500 mark so that deal is not all that good. however, undercoating can be good for a vehicle. i picked up a 97 corolla for a winter beater that had been properly undercoated and underneath looks brand spanking new. i'd say the deal is fair at best but if you aren't gonna be driving the car in winter time, skip the dealership stuff and have a professional install the 3M as you might get some smack **** lube tech at the dealer slapping it on.
