Of course it is. It's a vibration isolator.

Oddly enough this is the second time this concern has been expressed today.

I will give a similar response in saying imagine what would happen if the engine and tranny were bolted solid to the car. Those people that think there isn't much torque would soon learn otherwise.

Thank you.

I am having difficulties seeing what the insert does when the whole mount can flex like that?

Or what the ForgedFab/Perrin mounts does?

Just jump on an old Harley with a frame mounted, non-counterbalanced engine ......

( @Tcoat or @Ultramaroon ....... back in the day .....)

Nowadays it's called NVH. Back in the day it was called a running engine.

The insert adds some stiffness by filling in the open space. Not sure about FF or Perrin. Link, please, so I don't have to go looking. I'm enjoying watching reruns of the original Star Trek on BBC America.

Many components can do weird and wonderful things when not joined to their complete assemblies. Yes that moves around easily when off but when everything is bolted together it would not be nearly as floppy. Even with the Perrin mount the parts would move that much when off. It pushes against the tranny so would not have any effect until clamped in.

Yes the Perrin will stiffen it but it is gross overkill unless you are really hammering the car.

I've rocked the car back and forth engine off in first gear. IMHO by far most of the drivetrain mushiness is in the front differential mount. I'd start there.

This car doesn't even have a front differential though. Subaru isn't bringing that out until 2018.

They really cheaped out. Only used one mount for the whole front differential.

That explains why this car is so bad in snow.

I heard there will be no wheels and therefore no diffs because where we are going we don't need roads.
