Best Car Covers?

Hey all,

Just got a 2015 BRZ series.blue back in June and then moved to Chicago in August. I currently park behind my apartment but my car is situated under the red line (train) and it drops oil all over the cars parked underneath. I have a car cover from Subaru but apparently it is not waterproof, which means oil is still making its way onto my paint and corroding it. Do any of you guys have great experiences with specific car covers that are going to fit well and keep my paint safe?

Nah just slap a link to this one in the FAQ and people can read as many or few as they wish.

While I have no intention of wasting the time to read through all of those, I strongly suspect that none of them actually address OP's question, which you might have missed:

Did any of those threads specifically address oil-resistance? I suspect not, since car covers are usually porous to prevent moisture from being trapped against the car and aren't usually designed with train oil raining from the sky in mind.

In which case asking people about the subject should get no more responses than reading what already exists since I doubt there are a pile of others with this issue.

An issue that really would suck I might add!
I can't even picture it no matter how hard I try.
I can't imagine what other "stuff" drips off those trains.

Can you buy a small waterproofed/vinyl foldout canopy to park under?

Sounds like a damn frustrating problem

Only problem is that those things don't shed snow (already thought through that) and a canopy with 20 pounds of snow falling on my car sounds like it'll do more damage than some oil dripping from a train......

Anybody have some suggestions for some DIY carports?? lol

Did you take a wood working class in high school? Time to break out the 2x4s, saw and hammer for some home made weather protection

Ahhh damnit I thought he had a plan.

Jokes aside is there any way they would even let you put a structure of some sort there?

A permanent structure would be a no...a temporary structure, thinking PVC pipe and some tarps, would probably be okay. Just need to make it at a steep enough angle that snow is going to fall off but the wind isn't going to rock the thing into the side of my car.

The other solution is to pay $150/mo for uncovered parking or $200/mo to park in a garage...
