Finally Ready to explore tuning options - Need Help
So I've had my car for a little under 2 years now. I've slowly been adding more and more mods and I think I've done all I want to it for now. As far as performance goes I've added.
- Rims with Pilot SuperSport Tires in a staggered setup. - Swift Springs - Quickshifter - TRD Full Exhaust - TRD Cold Air Intake Honestly, there really aren't any other performance upgrades I feel I need in the foreseeable future (I might go for an Edelbrock Supercharger Kit, but that's not gonna be for a couple of years). So I figure now would be a good time to get a ECUTEK Full Tune. My only questions are whether it would be even worth it with my TRD Full Exhaust since I've read that the gains from it are minimal and which stage tuning I should get if it's a viable upgrade? I live in Arizona and E-85 is very scarce. So it doesn't seem to make sense for me to do a E-85 tune on a DD, unless I can use 91 which is the most popular premium gas around here without any repercussions on an E-85 tune. Otherwise, what would be the difference between a Stage 1 and a Stage 2 tune and which would get me the biggest gains based off the minimal performance upgrades I've done? Thanks Last edited by iNcontroL; 09-19-2016 at 09:18 PM. |

what is "TRD full exhaust"? pretty sure all they have out is a catback.
With the mods you have, Ecutek is going to be a huge waste of money.

Best performance for money is tune+ header. e85 odd great but obviously only if it's available. I have ecutek tuned by Delicios... super happy. BUT the Openflash Tablet is cheaper and will do everything you need. Unless you want to be able to instantly switch between maps for example (91 octane, 93 octane, valet, immobilizer) ecutek doesn't have any benefits over OFT

As far as I'm aware you could get just the TRD Exhaust Catback or the Catback and the Headers? I could be wrong though, I just had the dealership install mine and didn't ask too many questions lol.

Catless header, OFT, stage 2 91 octane tune and call it a day. There are lots of choices for headers, OpenFlash has a couple different package deals that look good. If you decide to go with a SC in the future, you could pick one that is supported by OpenFlash or change to Ecutek and easily sell the OFT. Either way, you get to keep your header! Win, Win.

I was told the exact same thing from the start, don't go EcuTek as N/A, it's a lot of money blah blah blah. Yes, lot of money. BUT, if you plan to go forced induction later etc, you won't regret already having purchased a cable and having a license. I could have had an EcuTek tune, cable and license for 1k AUD if I had have done my research but instead I listened and payed 900 AUD for a dyno tune that used brzEdit. I then ended up with Forced Induction and EcuTek.
Moral of the story, work out your end goal, even if it's super far down the track. What you do now could save you money later

Totally forgot BRZedit... I don't think it's big in the states though. Open flash is supposed to be fine with FI

Ecutek or OFT is good, but I feel with a mostly bolt on setup to go with Openflash.
*I have had both, btw |
