Kosei K4Rs vs Enkei Racing RPF1

Interested in quick opinions versus these two wheels. They are comparable in weight and the price is similar (therefore moot). What are your thoughts on durability? I've heard good things about Enkei but haven't heard much about Kosei (which doesn't mean anything since I don't know much about wheel companies). Thanks in advance.

Personally, I can't stand the RPF1's design. The Koseis look infinitely better, and the one FRS I've seen with the K4Rs made the offset look pretty damn close to perfect.

Yep, I was going to get RPF1's too but I think the design makes the wheels look smaller than they are. The post you linked are what is making me think K4Rs.

I've been looking for $200-300 wheels that are as light as possible for quite awhile.

Getting some pre-owned more expensive wheels from Yokohoma Advan, Buddy Club, SSR, Weds Sports, or SSR is a possibility, as long as they're in pristine condition.

On the new side, the only wheels that have struck my fancy are the K4Rs or Forgestar F14s (I am prioritizing 18" to 17" since I like the way they fill out the wheel wells).

To make my decision even more complicated, I just realized today I could just get any wheel I decide on to be powdercoated in my color of choice (probably a bronze/gunmetal hybrid).

After a LOT of research, the K4R's almost seem like a perfect wheel to me. I've been lusting after them for awhile and since I saw Vracer's car with them mounted I've been almost completely sold on them. They are very light, perfect width, quite attractive, and the offsets work well it seems. Great way to get a wheel where form doesn't come too far from function. Plus, they're made in Japan!

I've seen a couple threads on various forms (from google searches) about broken Kosei K1's but nothing about K4's. I'm not sure if this means they're less prone to breaking (note: I did NOT say bending) or if there's just less people who own K4R's.

Personally, if everything is similar other than aesthetic design, i'd say go for the Kosei. The Enkeis are great weight and technology, but they are pretty average looking.

Dear lord, just found out about Enkei RS+M wheels. Apparently they were replaced on Enkei's site by the RSM9s, which have 2 extra spokes, a slightly different design, and are heavier. Come in stock offset (+48) for 5x100 in 17x7.5 and weigh ~16lbs (this Enkei weight list doesn't seem to have a weight for the 17x7.5).


To me, these look closer to Enkei Fujins or K4Rs than RSM9s, and I found 17x7.5 online for ~$220. They also come in 18x7.5 and 18x8.. Think I found a winner >.>

Over the years I've had two sets of Enkei RPF1's, one on my Miata and another on my Mustang, and I've had two sets of Kosei wheels as well (but not the K4R yet), the original K1 and the K1-TS, which are currently on our Forester, but will be transplanted onto the BRZ as soon as the new tires get here.

I've been happy in general with the Enkeis and Kosei wheels. I personally like the looks of the RPF1's, but I'm more of a function over form kinda guy, so I'll usually pick the lightest wheel. I did bend one of the RPF1's when I hit some lumber in the road on my Miata, but I'm just glad it bent and didn't break, like some cheaper wheels probably would have.

I fixed the link in my original post.. Hadn't realized I botched it. According to a seller's post on nasioc, they're 18.2 lbs in 18x8. Not too shabby for gaining an inch in both diameter and width.

According to Michelin's website, these puppies wrapped in 235/40/18 Pilot Super Sports should be 41.77lbs (compared to 40.49lbs for the OEM wheel+tire). Only giving up 5.12lbs for that much extra grip sounds like a pretty great deal to me

Does anyone have feedback on Kosei? Considering them strongly @ $195/wheel.
