I don't understand the point of them being two pieces? Seems like a waste, and just something to go wrong.

These look a bit different from 2-piece nuts I have seen before. The ones I have seen, the cone that touches the wheel does not spin and the hex part tightens like normal. This kind of look likes 2 pieces performing the exact same function as a 1 piece, just with an extra part to lose.

I think this is a bad design. The only thing I can think of is they are trying to get you to torque down the small black piece so it takes any marring, then you can basically just snug it's shell on. Some basic Muteki SR48's have a similar look...

I agree with jazzle. This would solve the problem of lug marring. I've heard of the coating on some Mutekis flaking off right away and my Kics R40s aren't exactly perfect any more but they safe in pretty good shape. They are 2 piece but the second piece is like a washer so you don't mar your wheels. I think these will keep your lugs looking pristine. It's from a respectable brand so if you like the look and want to keep them looking perfect then buy them. If you don't care so much about looks just get Muteki

An internal AND an external aluminum hex to strip! wooo!
Brutal idea, seems like they're designed for cosmetics.

If you drive your car, change your wheels, be on the actual streets.....skip it. The chrome mutekis don't flake, the other ones do. If you care lots about your lug nut finish, you can also do two sets of lugnuts, one for car shows and wrap the leading edge in tape before you put them on.

I have a friend that has those. He keeps the red part off unless he's at shows. Otherwise he just keeps the black steel part on.

I have used McGuard two piece lugs for years and never had any issues. I beleive they are similar in design as these.

I don't see an "internal" hex. I see 2 external hex, but one's a cover for the other.
To me, these seem like a "haha, got ya" for wheel thieves. They'll take the cover off then discover they need a key for the lock. Then they'll throw the covers somewhere and mar your wheels regardless... I don't see a benefit here. Get the McGards as mentioned above, or the more expensive KICS r40.

These lug nuts seem geared more for show guys, where clean, unmarred lugs would be desirable, as the inner steel lug would take the actual beating.
I would not recommend them for race use. Also, of you are looking to use the 2pc lugs for use with both OEM and aftermarket wheels be careful. The 2pc Kics lugs rotating seat can fail if torqued to the OEM wheels....(personal experience, I damaged all 20pcs.) The standard Muteki open steel lugs are a great choice and what I currently use. |

They were all tightened down to 85lbs.ft If you are using only aftermarket wheels, they will work fine. |
