Tire Cupping and Camber? Yokohama S-Drives

Hey all,

I'm currently running -5 deg neg camber in the front and -4 deg neg camber in the rear. I am very well of the uneven tread wear that this setup might exhibit.

I've driven these tires from new to nearly 3k miles. Today, I dismounted all 4 tires to see what the wear pattern was like.

There seems to be slight cupping going on in the inner edge of the tire. My toe has been zeroed out since I mounted the tires, and I have heard multiple sources say that negative camber does not cause cupping. Anyone else experience this, particularly on Yokohama S.Drive tires? I'm not sure what route I should go to go about solving this.

I am on BC Racing Extreme low suspension, 10k spring rates front/rear. I am curious as to why there are already signs of cupping going on even though my tires and coils were new.

any type of cupping always leads me to think you have something worn with your suspension. even though you state that your coilovers are new, maybe the spring rate coupled with the dampening of the shocks are not optimal which would have caused the cupping. are you able to adjust your shock dampening, and if so have you done so and what are you current settings?

5 and 4 degrees of camber? Why? Are you one of those stance looking people?
Anyway cupping is due to your toe settings.

rims are old and were previously drift spares.

i need to in order to clear the fender (wheels are 5x114 and PCD 5x114 to 5x100 adapters only come as little as 11mm spacers). any more camber and ill rub.

i have 10k spring rates front/rear, and my dampening settings are 8 clicks starting from soft in the rear, and 12 clicks starting from soft in the front.

bc racing extreme lows. I just changed the dampening setup to what i stated earlier today after noticing the cupping. Other than that, are there advisable dampening settings to run with such spring rates for DD and street driving?

Sell your wheels, get wheels with the right bolt pattern/offset. You shouldn't need spacers.
Problem solved. Tires will last longer, your ride would be better, you'll feel better and you won't have people point and laugh anymore.

@adjusts What wheel/tire size setup do you have? Most of your problem is from stretched tires and too much camber. People tell you camber won't cause cupping **under normal conditions, but are stretched tires and -5/-4 camber normal?

Try stiffening the dampers. Make them very stiff to prevent the spring oscillation that's making the cupping. With that much camber you're going to destroy those tires quick fast and in a hurry anyway. Toe out does a lot more tire damage than camber, but camber will eat tires too.

Another thing to try is to set a little toe in all around. Start with a small amount and work your way up. With that much camber your car already handles like shit, so what's the point in zeroing out the toe?

Is the cupping happening on all four tires?

The cupping is likely being caused by toe out like guybo said.

A bump steer correction kit would fix the cupping in the front.
Your car looks very low; causing the angle of your steering rods to be wrong.
When you are on the brakes the incorrect angle of the steering rods will cause the front tires to toe out during braking and cause the cupping wear.

Riding on the edge of the tires with a tweeked suspension prob just bouncing all over the place. Its not toe its too much camber with to tight of a suspension, your bouncing.

Maybe bring back the camber by .5 front and rear, raise the car 1/8th of an inch, soften the shocks as far as you can without bottoming out. Or buy tires in bulk
