Unhappy Avo Turbo: Humming / buzzing noise from engine

Hey everyone,

I went my BRZ for a quick ride last weekend and all of a sudden I heard this strange humming noise coming from the engine bay. At first I thought it's the fan, but the fan was not even spinning, so I stopped and checked the engine bay. I have no idea where it's coming from and it does not seem to be connected to revving the engine, it's more of an electrical thing...

When I turn the car off, the humming sound is still there for a second or so and then pitches until it's gone.

Any ideas?

If it continues after crank stops turning I would look at turbo. Put a screw driver against your ear and listen to different areas of engine bay.

^ that or vacuum hose in one ear and the other against/near the turbo then have someone shut the car off and see if that's where the noise is coming from after shutting it down.

Case solved - the blow off valve is causing this noise, depending on the heat in the engine bay. It's nothing to worry about, as the valve is still working as it should.

Asked for a replacement anyway, as it's just 3000km old and the boost is so low (~4.5psi) that these issues should not occur in my opinion. Better be safe.

Thank you guys for the replies
