Rear Seat Speakers

Have you upgraded your audio system? If so, what have you done with the 4"-ish speakers in the back?

Rather than replace, has anyone found extra space in there to be creative as in increasing the size?

Someone replaces rear speakers with ones that have two built in for that space. Couldn't find thread.

Pull them out and carve out a space to makeup for the cup holders you don't have?

I've been back and forth on this...I've come to the conclusion the FRS is a less than perfect environment for good audio sound. The biggest culprit IMO is the lack of mid range. And swapping out those rear speakers is going to be tough.

I installed the OEM+system which does a good job, but my car is so friggin loud I felt it needed some more umph. Then I added a powered Rockford sub. That helped a lot. Then I changed the radio head to the Pioneer AVH-4200NEX. That was a really good purchase. One of many great features on that head is the ability to fine tune speaker levels, not just with a front /rear slider but each speaker. Also you can create custom EQ's, crossovers, and the source level of an ipod or iphone which can be used like a loudness button.

But then I have those wimpy 3.5" rear speakers, which are not so good. I considered cutting a bigger hole and mounting a speaker box and go with JL 6" or 8" coaxial speakers. Big hassle and I'm not sure it's worth it. Since I can't leave well enough alone, I'm going ahead with the rear seat delete kit, which I've been thinking about anyway, and install the sub and two JL 8" coaxial speakers into the rear wall. I'm sure I will have to beef up the back wall to handle the Rockford sub, but that's not difficult.

the rear speakers are really just fillers. focus on the front stage if you want to improve the sq.
