Drifting the 86 Questions

Hey guys, just wanted to ask some questions for those who have drifted the 86 on a track.

1. Any overheating issues with the powersteering?
2. Any problems with the stock clutch as far as clutch kicking to initiate?
3. Is the e-brake sufficient to lock-up the rear? does it need to be adjusted?
4. Any over heating questions at all?
5. Is the stock LSD pretty aggressive?

thanks for any info you guys can provide.

As i have not fully drifted the car but have gone sideways i can answer some.
1) no it should not over heat since their is no powersteering, it is electronically enhanced (if that makes since i forgot what they really called it)
2) cannot answer this
3)Yes the e-brake is good enough to lock the rear, just make sure you do a proper weight transfer before you pull it
4)yes it is.

Nothing needs to be done. This is from two hours of drifting on my Closed Course and I still came out perfect. Nothing over heated or anything. And I'm talking 2 hours straight.

1. Any overheating issues with the powersteering?

Negative - the twins are built with much margin for cooling in this regard.

2. Any problems with the stock clutch as far as clutch kicking to initiate?

Negative, I kick that mofo all day and she loves it.

3. Is the e-brake sufficient to lock-up the rear? does it need to be adjusted?

For sure - although, I've noticed some weird clunking noise while driving, I'm told it's the nature of the in-wheel hub style e-brake. It seems to work well to upset the chassis and initiate a slide - just make sure you get back on the power AS SOON as traction breaks, otherwise it just won't get where you want it to be.

4. Any over heating questions at all?

Negative. Haven't had the brakes give me any issues, or the engine.. perhaps me, but that's fixed with a few icy colds

5. Is the stock LSD pretty aggressive?

The stock LSD is a Torsen type - hydraulic vs. mechanical. It has some advantage in exiting corners, but has some disadvantages going into them. If you were a pro drifter or tracker, you'd probably go a mechanical diff. I'll wait till mine blows up (as torsens do, whereas mechanical ones tend to wear out) before I think about replacing it with anything, if ever. Day to Day, it's fantastic.

I went through about 2 Sets. 2 hours was more of an exaggeration. (With potty breaks and rehydrating and all.....It gets hot in that cabin.)

And My Closed Course is in Texas.

thanks for the info guys, I had a 240sx and 350z which needed numerous mods to keep it reliable and on the track for a period of time. Im glad to hear that the frs is good right from the dealer.

So these mods may be considered as an overkill?

1) engine oil cooler
2) rear mech LSD
3) enlarged diff cover with baffle and cooling ribs

I am not yet planning to race real hard, but like the feel of extra safety

I had Cusco RS 1,5 way LSD on my Forester and I loved it, but was a bit annoyed with clunks driving in the city or in tight turns
