New tires on one side?
I hopped a curb a few weeks ago, and the adjuster just gave me the estimate. It says they will replace with new stock tires and new wheels on the driver side since the wheels were dented in and the tires had chunks of rubber taken off. How will this affect the car having brand new tires with full tread on the left front and rear and worn tires that I drift on all the time on the right side front and rear?
Is there anyway they will replace all 4 out of concern for that being unsafe? I don't know much about the physics of tires so not sure how that affects safety anyway. Anyone light shone on this topic for me will be greatly appreciated!

They won't pay for all four. But since the tires aren't directional just have the tire shop mount the two new tires in the rear and the two old tires at the front.

Thanks for the quick reply. I read somewhere that the tires weren't ever supposed to be rotated from right to left or vise versa however. Did I just understand that wrong?

That was back in the day, probably more appropriate for bias-ply tires, not so much with today's radials. If you are still concerned, you can have one of the right side tires unmounted and remounted after being turned around so that the rotation will be the same direction on the left side.

Kind of. It depends on the tread of the tire. If it's a directional tread, then it needs to point a certain way. If it's correct on the right side, then it'll be backwards on the left side. You'd have to have them completely unmounted from the wheel and remounted to work on the left side. Our OEM tires aren't directional, so it's not a big deal.

Oh, I re-read my first post; you could/should always ask if they will replace all four tires. You can try to convince them by saying the front and rear tires aren't worn the same amount. It never hurts to ask; the worst that will happen is they will just say no.

"OE Replacement, Michelin Primacy 215/45R17 $165.00" Could a shop put on different tires or do they have to follow what the estimate says? Because my local discount tire has Michelin PSS 245/45R17 for $160 and so it's a much better tire for cheaper.

This is probably what is going to happen.

Having different types/makes/models of tires on your car is kind of "iffy" unless you know what you are doing and have an idea what effect having the different tires might have on handling. Maybe none, maybe dangerous. You might ask Michelin if they recommend mixing the two models... Last edited by MrDinkleman; 06-08-2016 at 07:16 PM. |

Well my question was if the insurance will allow the purchase of the PSS over the primacy since they're cheaper and better. If this was the case, I would buy the other 2 myself lol, no plans to mix and match
