TRD brake pads installed... rusted caliper question
Hey folks, finally able to do just a little mod on my car. You family guys/gals understand that modding takes a back seat once kids come along lol. All good though.
So today I got around to installing some trd brake pads. Never knew how much different things could feel with a decent set of pads. I always heard that it did, but this is the first time I've only done the pads. What drove me to replace the pads is that I always had this squealing coming from my left front wheel. Usually only when turning slightly to the left either at slow speeds or on the highway. I thought changing the pads would help, which it did a little I think, but it's still there. While I had the caliper off on the left front I was pushing in the pistons (I think that's what they are called) so I could fit them back over the new pads. One of the pistons looked normal, just like both of them on the right front side did, but the other was rusted and didn't move smoothly like the other one. When I started to push it in, it like just moved really fast about a half inch before catching. So anyways, now I'm wondering if when I let off the brakes, this particular piston isn't pulling back like the other and getting stuck keeping just enough pressure on the pad to cause it to squeal a bit. Anyone else have this problem? If so anyone know any solutions? I'd hate to have to replace the calipers, but I will if I have to. while I can't mod much, I can definitely take care of it. |

Well, your right on point with troubleshooting. It is a stuck piston.
Fear not, you don't have to replace the whole caliper, you just need a rebuild kit from Toyota. You can YouTube it and save a lot of money or, if you want to spend a little, take the caliper off and take it to any brake shop or Toyota and have them rebuild it. The down side you'll be with out a car for a day or so. Depending if they have the parts/time. You can order then parts before hand then just hand it off to them along with the parts. Any good shop should have them cleaned , rebuilt with in 2 hours or so.
