FRS with no programmer

I'm looking at a FRS with a Vortech supercharger at a dealer, however it has no programmer. No Ecutek or oft is with the car and they cannot get a hold of the previous owner. If I decide to get it is there anything that could be done with the tune? If I get another programmer is is there a way to reflash if needed?

I would say tell Them to knock off couple thousand dollars off the car and get a programmer and you should be good to go. as long as the SuperCharger doesn't have substantial changes from its standard setup. but it still could be a big crap shoot with the car modified like that.

If it was an ecutek tune will I just be able to get another cable and tune it?

Ok

If its an opensource tune like OFT or Tacrix then ECU is not locked and you can use any tune system to reflash or alter the existing tune.

If its Ecutek tune then ECU is locked to ecutek, so you would need to use an Ecutek tuner or buy an ecutek cable to be able to access ecu to retune or unlock the ecu back to stock or unlocked state.

If its BRZEdit tune then its locked to brzedit so again you need to use brzedit tuner or buy brzedit to access ecu to retune or return to stock unlocked state

The thing that sucks is their is no easy 100% way to tell which system has been used until you start trying the different systems and see which connects. and brz edit wont unlock ecutek and vice versa.

Yeah! what he said! Additionally you never have a stock tune to revert the car back too. This is the problem when you buying a modded car. You don't know what the other guy's done to it before you get it.

.. unless previous owner was courteous and provided all info. Seriously - how hard can it be to tell such simple things for next owners? Or leave paper print out with that info if sale goes through some interim sellers?

The fact that the dealer can't get a hold of the previous owner means that purchasing that car could be a huge gamble. For all you know, that car could be on the stock tune.

If the dealer can't get a hold of the previous owner, it was probably an Auction buy.....

I called to ask if they go in touch with the previous owner and they said the car sold over the weekend. I'm guessing they didn't
