How to remove change tray?

Guys I've had trouble removing the change tray that's below the HVAC controls, with the normal style tray (limited BRZ). I was trying to remove it so I could get to a couple screws inside there.

The instructions to remove the tray were to reach under the passenger wide with my hand and use my fingers to force it out. Unfortunately, this ended up with me cutting my finger against something metal. And while my finger's aren't stubby (I assure you Donald) they probably aren't long enough to easily pop out the tray. I tried pressing against it and got some force on it, but not enough.

Does anybody have any tips for getting the tray off? What direction should I be pressing it from to pop it out?

Pop out the plast piece on the passenger side. Just pull and it will unclip. Then reach until you feel the back of the usb box. Push it out. Disconect. Then you should be able to tug out the tray.

It takes a surprising amount of effort. Keep at it, you won't break it... push out from behind.

It's just a huge pain TBH. I just kept pulling and pulling till it finally unclipped. Most frustrating part of changing the clutch imo

That tray is a little bitch. I have taken mine off 50+ times by now I bet. Best way to do it I find is remove the lower trim bit on the passenger side so you can reach in behind (its tight) and pop the usb thing out. Unplug that then stick your fingers in the hole and give it a good pull
