Headlight turns on unlock MOD
Hi,
With the keyless version of the Toyota 86/FRS, when you walk up close to the car, the interior dome light will automatically turn on whether you unlock the car or not. Is it possible to somehow make it so when I walk up to the vehicle, when the dome light turns on, have the headlight also turn on. Just like the european cars. |

My EUDM GT86 just lights up the dome light. Even when I unlock it, it just lights up the dome light. I don't know if there's a "coming home function" on the twins. Maybe with the Tap-Turn module?

You could use a micro controller (like Arduino) to make it happen. It's actually really simple:
When you turn the headlights on manually, what you're doing is grounding a specific wire. When that specific wire is grounded, that tells the ECU to turn on the headlights. All you'd have to do is tap this specific wire and connect the tapped wire to an output on a micro controller. Then you'd program the controller to ground the wire, thus turning on the headlights. You can program the controller to receive a series of signals in order to do this, such as a signal to let the controller know that the ignition is not on, and another signal to let the controller know that the smart key is near by. The only problem I see is finding a power source that will turn on the controller when the smart key is nearby. You don't want the micro controller to be on 24/7, even if its current draw is minimal.

My '16 BRZ limited keeps the lights on when I park the car on auto light mode. Never noticed the lights turning on when I unlock/walk up to the car though. Then again I never really tested it. Kinda weird that it would have the coming home feature but not the leaving home feature.
I also have the tapturn module and that does have both coming home and leaving home feature but it only turns on the signal lights so I get a nice amber illumination instead of full blast headlights. |
