Jeep Crew Chief concept previews the company's upcoming pickup

Quote:
Jeep's Head of Design has revealed the Crew Chief concept provides a hint at what the company's upcoming pickup with look like.

Speaking with Outside, Mark Allen said the East Jeep Safari concepts provide some "hints about what’s going on behind the scenes." Allen was coy on specifics but noted, "There may be things you see on the Crew Chief that you might see on that truck.”

The only real hint that Allen would provide was the fact that the Crew Chief is a crew cab pickup and the company has never done this before. This likely means the upcoming production model will be based on the Wrangler Unlimited and feature a crew cab configuration.

Unfortunately, the stamped tailgate won't carryover to the production model even though it has been a trademark of previous Jeep vehicles. As Allen explained, they are "fraught with quality issues" and the company would end up throwing away a lot of tailgates to get it right.

As a refresher, the Crew Chief concept is based on the Wrangler Unlimited which pays tribute to previous Jeep military vehicles including the Kaiser M715. As a result, it features a retro-inspired front fascia and 20-inch beadlock wheels with 40-inch NDT military tires. The truck has also been equipped with rock rails, a winch, a 4-inch lift kit, and Dana 60 axles.
