Tommi Makinen previews BRZ tS

Haven't seen anyone post this yet... Delete if repost.

Here's the translated version of the article. Ignore the news about new engine. The original article from STi has no mention of BRZ STi and is in fact just a test drive review from Tommi Makinen about the BRZ tS.

Original Article from sti.jp:

Final paragraph makes a completely unsubstantiated conclusion.

Nothing about the tS suggests that the BRZ will get a new engine any time soon.

This is nothing but the usual baseless speculation about things that are nowhere near happening.

It looks like TorqueNews decided to change the article to their liking. Did a quick google translation of the sti.jp link of the article and there's no mention of BRZ STi or a new engine.

**I'll change the thread title to avoid misleading people.

No surprise there. Subaru already has a turbocharged performance vehicle: the WRX and STI. They aren't going to do that to the BRZ, which I think they consider to be more like their roadster.

This whole setup on the twins is simply making Toyota and Subaru too much money right now for them to hike up the cost with a different engine or factory FI, and thus price the car right out of its intended demographic.

It seems a reasonable inference from this article that Subaru is developing an Sti version of the BRZ, and there is no conceivable scenario in which an Sti version is not going to have a power boost over the conventional model - Subaru would be subject to humiliating ridicule if they tried as the car (rightly or wrongly) is widely viewed as underpowered even in its base form. Subaru is very aware of this, which is why this upgraded BRZ sans a power boost being tested here is not called an Sti but a tS. Imagine BMW coming out with an M version of the 3 series with no more power and the kind of reaction that would have to get an idea of the response Subaru would receive.

The BRZ Sti is the only forthcoming car that I'd be willing to put a deposit on even before the order books opened (well this and the M2).

They don't compete. They are simply priced similarly. But they're two totally different cars.
