Properly disconnecting battery?

Installing a harness bar tomorrow that requires removal of the B-pillar. I don't believe I'm removing the part where the airbag actually is, but I rather play it safe.

What's the proper way to disconnect the battery? Remove the negative terminal then let it sit for 10 minutes? Or should I step on the brake a couple of times to remove excess charge as I've read?

Also, if disconnected long enough, will it reset my ECU and in doing so, require me to drive under RPMs or a certain way for awhile?

1) remove negative terminal
2) remove positive terminal
3) remove tie-down
4) lift battery out
5) carry battery 3.2kms away from car
6) proceed to work on car

Jokes aside just disconnect the negative and put a rubber glove over it just incase it decides it wants to touch something lol. When it come to airbags and shit they say let it sit 10 minutes blah blah blah. I took my airbag out once and totally forgot to disconnect the battery and I am still alive. You are over thinking this haha. Your ECU will be fine you can drive like normal.

Thanks all!
Pretty sure that was long enough to reset my ECU. Now it shakes violently when stopping and throttle has major lag. This is only cause it's relearning or whatever right? It'll go away in a couple miles/days?

That is correct. It has to relearn the throttle and everything, drive it around for a while or few days and it should go away. Now to make it quicker, I'm not sure, I hear mix stuff, some say WOT some times and some say don't WOT. But I say just drive it like you normally do, nothing special. Take it with a grain of salt.
