BRZ Won't start
My car won't start, I have the Limited trim with the keyless start.
As soon as i open my door, I notice a few things: 1. The window does not slightly open and close with the door anymore, rather it is always in the slightly open state. 2. The car is constantly beeping until I close the door. I know its not my battery because: 1. Tried jump 2. Everything in my car works, all lights, radio indicators...everything I don't know if its the steering wheel lock, but I have tried the following: 1. Jiggling the steering wheel while pressing the start button 2. cranking and holding the steering wheel in one direction while pressing start (tried both directions) I disconnected the battery and let it sit for a good hour and reconnected to try again, still no dice. The car started and was running literally about 30 minutes before this happened. I think my immobilizer was tripped for some unknown reason. After trying to get the car to start for about 4 hours, gave up and called roadside assistance, it'll be towed to the nearest dealer. Anyone know what the problem might be? This is driving me nuts. What did you do with the car for the 30 minutes between when it was last running and when you tried to re-start it .. ??

Did you check the battery in your fob? They don't last very long according to Scion (though mine has been going twice as long as they have said it would already)

I haven't checked all fuses...but I have checked the ones that I thought were relevant, seemed fine. The key fob is about 6 months old, i doubt its the battery, plus I tried my spare fob and I can lock/unlock the door from the normal distance.
For the 30 minutes, i had taken apart the steering column cover to try and fix a rattle there, after I fixed that rattle (btw for anyone else having a rattle in the steering column, you need to tighten the nut located on the right side that tightens the lock mechanism for the steering wheel position) and put the cover back on, pushed the button to start the car and no go. The reason why I say that I'm not sure if its the steering lockout or not is because the steering lockout module is located right where that nut for the position lock is, I might have touched something the wrong way...I dunno. I did make sure all connections were seated properly multiple times. |

![]() Has your car been towed off yet .. ?? If so, I suggest you call the dealership and explain what you were fiddling with just before the no start (before they really screw up your car ....... fixing something that ain't broke). If you still have the car, you have a good idea where to start ...... fuses mentioned above and any relevant relays. Let us know how you make out. humfrz |

I was tugging at the steering wheel kinda hard trying to get my hand around to get to that nut..maybe that had something to do with it...I dunno but I hope its an easy fix and I get to drive my car the same day, because I love my car dearly and everyday without it is like a mini anxiety attack for me.

I recall, back in the day, I was innocently changing the spark plugs in my old stove bolt 6 Chevrolet. Pretty straightforward job .... right .. ?? Well, I managed to twist off a sparkplug, such that the threads of the plug were still in the head. Sheeeeeeee-it! So, I figured I'd have to take off the head, take it into the machine shop, have it drilled out and rethreaded for a larger plug. When my grandfather saw me fixing on untwisting the head bolts, he ask me why I was doing that. I showed him the remaining threads of the spark plug stuck in the head. He told me to go out to that coffee can, wired on the back of the old Oliver tractor and bring him that huge screwdriver, with the steel handle with wood inserts. He calmly tapped (wedged) that screwdriver into the sparkplug hole and with a twist of his steel like grip, unscrewed the remaining part of the plug right out of the head. He then told me to put the screwdriver back where I found it and ........ NOT to try to back out a plug (without squirting some kerosene around it), with a 1/2" drive socket ..... iffen it won't budge without a breaker bar. Yep, back on our farm, we didn't have "easy-outs" or a set of taps or "PB Blaster". I sure hope it's something simple with your car ........ ![]() humfrz |

Not sure why he mentioned that either, I don't think its related to your issue. Even if tripping the alarm enabled the immobilizer, it'd be obvious cause the alarm would be going off too lol.

Anyways, i just got off the phone with the dealer, it was just a blown fuse for the steering lockout. I must've shorted something out when i was tinkering around there. Its all good, funny because checking the steering lock fuse was the next fuse I was going to check, but the tow truck came before I could get around to checking it.
