Portland Autocross March 20th
Hello everyone. I am planning to try out auto crossing for the first time out in pir. Just wondering if anybody here is planning on being there it would be cool to meet up and meet some fellow 86 members and I could definitely use any help for how things work in the autocross world.
I picked up a used silver frs a few months ago and it is all stock except for a drop in filter. Been dying to see what the car can do in a safe racing environment and excited for a first event. I pre registered for the event and put myself in the STX class. I noticed another white frs registered in ppax? I think. Am I in the right class or best class for someone just starting out? Ps. Anybody have helmet recommendations? I was planning on just borrowing one that day but I eventually want to try out a few track days at an actual track too. I like the idea of open face helmets for comfort but not sure if that is allowed on track days. Thanks for any help! |

Sign up for the Oregon PCA skills clinic if have the time to do it. Easy intro to autocross with right seat instruction, plus an autox in the afternoon just made up of students. Less pressure that way.

I'll second that. If you can do the Oregon PCA skills clinic. Well worth the money to get you off on the right foot in the confidence and skill department.
When you get to the ORSCCA Event and sign in on the 20th tell them it is your first event and ask to be moved to the Challenge Class. It is an open class for people like yourself that is just beginning. The car or level of car prep doesn't matter. It will be a much more fun experience for you competing with others that are just starting out. Autocross is about skill first. Just remember to have fun. I'll be there early for the ORSCCA on the 20th. BRZ 391. Stop by and introduce yourself and I'll give you a hand getting started. And seriously, if you can swing it, do the ORPCA Skills Clinic. They also have an AX the following day on the 13th, do that too if you can. |

@Whooosah, that's definitely my car lol. What mods have you done to your car? If this is your first time in the autox circuit you can go into the Trophy Challenge class which has no limitations on mods and you can learn more without feeling competitive. You can also run Time Only but I would run in a class. I ran the challenge once and next time I was in STX and was not even close to setup for it. But I was there to learn and get better every run. We all help each other and if you need help/coaching, there's always a seasoned driver available to ride with you.
As far as helmets I would recommend a full face but for your first event borrow one from the club so you can at least figure out your size. Locally there are only about 2 or 3 shops that have snell 2010 or newer helmets. And you can get them cheaper online sometimes. I ran with the Porsche Club for several years and I truly like the SCCA better because of the level of feedback and coaching you get for your specific car and driving style. Besides, we have a blast on and off the coarse. If you want advice on setup or autox, ping me and we can meet for coffee or lunch sometime. Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk

Cool thanks guys! I'll see if I can try and swing one of those novice classes.
Rio, my car is all stock except for a kn filter. I am dying to get some mods done. I'm thinking OFT tune and headers eventually. Also looking at a abm or topspeed axle back exhaust just so I can hear my car, its too quiet. Wheels and tires once I wear the stock ones out. Short term it would be nice to have a nice sounding exhaust and OFT tune. Maybe some camber bolts to get a bit more neg camber upfront but otherwise just going to have some fun and get a little spirited driving out of my system. Also looking forward to see all your cars to get an idea of where to start modding and to hear some sweet exhausts you guys have. Also any shops you guys recommend for checking out helmets and parts around this area? |

NWAA is having an autox practice weekend in the Dalles this weekend. With so few people signed up I suspect it will be zero coursework and just 2 days of fun runs. You can swap drivers, cars, passengers, whatever with this format.
I'm planning to be there both days. Sign-up here: https://www.motorsportreg.com/events...4#.VtddqfkrKUk |
