Auto- trans. Don't be a jerk. Try SNOW mode.

I love our auto transmission but find normal taking off a little too sudden to be smooth unless I try hard.
Knowing SNOW mode eliminates first gear and forces second I tried it. Voila! It pulls away strongly and smoothly. ...hills or the flat, gentle pedal or booting it. No sign of struggle.
It works with the cruise control and VSC Sport (which I normally use) but not Sport so I am leaving it in SNOW mode all the time.
If anyone knows of a downside, please share.

I only use snow mode when its raining and im stopped on the crest of a hill. No wheel spin or sliding backwards when taking off.

Otherwise, there's no real reason to use it all the time.. unless you stuck in snow

Thanks for your interest.

There's no sign or feeling of lugging. Even starting off up a steep hill or flattening the pedal it just seems to take off strongly and very similar to first. There's no pinging that I can hear, not even momentarily. The revs come up fast. If you can try it, give it a go.

No doubt it increases the 0-to-100 time but I am surprised how quickly the revs rise myself. Without using a stopwatch I would not know the difference but it doesn't FEEL like it.
Give it a try yourself.

hmmmm..........sorry, I can't try it ....... as close as I can come, is taking off in 2nd gear. My FR-S will do that, but it doesn't much like it .......

Which brings to mind, the first automatic I ever drove, had only 2 speeds and only a 105 HP engine ........ how on earth did we get by with only a 2 speed transmission .......

The auto transmission has clutches inside that are slipping when you do that. Taking off in second all the time will wear them more quickly. It is a bad idea.

Does this tranny act like a manual, as to when you start in second , you are sluggish? Would it stall. I'd have to keep revs up in my manual to keep from stalling up hill in second. I do drive in traffic in second though, unless it comes to a stop

Theres to much traffic I can't pass!!!
I can't get my car outa second gear!!

I actually start in 2nd a good majority of the time (except up hill) as I hate how short 1st gear is. and please don't give me any shit about it wearing out clutches and parts as I'm well aware but don't care lol. I seem to have no problems and don't feel I spent any longer slipping the clutch as I would in 1st. I can see where that snow button would feel better in an auto as well.

This. You are wearing out the clutch packs as well as torque lugging the engine repeatedly, if you really want to be able to launch faster then get 4.88 or 4.67 gears then you're gear ratio will be much better than a manual and acceleration times will drop considerably

Thanks for that information. I wondered if there was any downside of that type.

I shall stop using Snow mode all the time with the exception of in funeral processions when the sudden take-off using first gear destroys the decorum of the occasion.

Maybe the accelerator can be programmed differently.

Its called not mashing the pedal when the light turns green.......

Thanks for your interest. Actually I want to launch a little SLOWER or more refined/ smoothly. It doesn't bother me enough to be fitting new gears.

Someone has said they had the throttle re-mapped and they have achieved what I am after so I am looking at that angle.

Exactly you can use the manual transmission throttle mapping in romraider, but what your doing seems kind of useless
