Funny smell from dead headlight (BRZ Bi-Xenon)

So I noticed my Driver's side headlight bulb went out tonight. I thought that was odd since it's less than a year old replacement bulb from @Diode Dynamics. The stock bulb had lasted up to that point, which puts it at about two years.

When I pulled the cap and connector, I smelt some really foul smell, and looked at the connector and it looked a little dirty inside (compared to other side to confirm, no smell over there either). When I pulled the bulb out, it didn't have that smell, so it seems to be from the connector. I put the factory bulbs back in for now and they are both working at least right away, no extended use yet.

Any info? Is it a normal smell when these types of bulbs die? But why would it die after only about 10 months?

was your replacement bulb an OEM bulb, or a Diode Dynamics aftermarket bulb? how do the wires look on the connector?

It was whatever DD sells as "OEM Replacement" They're not the same as stock, which are labeled as Osram, they have no writing on them. Wires look fine.

it might be just a bad bulb then. your best bet will be to use an OEM part, which are the Osram bulbs.
