E85 and oil temperature

Either my google-fu is bad, or there isn't a specific discussion on this topic.

I'm curious if anyone has compared the oil temperatures when running E85 vs 93 octane (or 91) on the track.

There are lots of oil temperature and oil cooler threads but I'm curious if the added cooling of E85 will also help to keep oil temperatures down.

@Reaper, I know that you run E85 pretty much exclusively, but I didn't see that you ever did a comparison. If you did, could you share the data?

I've only run e85 on track once, but I noticed my oil temp was 8-10C cooler with e85.

Well I've never used pump gas. But with just a deep oil pan and a cut cowl running amsoil dominator 10w30 running 16-19 psi in the mountains pretty hard. Hard enough to damage stock brakes I have pretty consistent oil temps. Now I have an oil cooler sitting on my bench ready to go in completely assembled but until the oil temps get higher it's not going in. 8 quart oil changes are expensive enough without adding another quart to it.

Hottest oil temp I've seen is 230* F and that was when I melted a dust boot on my brake caliper being wreckless in some extreme elevation changes. I also damaged a transmission that day. Flat foot shifting in the mountains.

Thanks for the info guys.

I've hit 262* on the track this summer, so I'm trying to figure out my options for next seasons.

If E85 runs cool enough then I won't need to mess with an oil cooler and I'll get the moar powah benefit, so that's a double win.

You'll need an oil cooler to begin with. These cars should come with one from the factory, right out of the 2015 wrx.

I've always run E85 at the track. I don't have any hard numbers, but the temperature difference (if any) is not enough to offset the need for an oil cooler. FI and NA.

I think you are sadly mistaken. In hot temps in na form these cars get much to hot let alone boosted. Get an Bluetooth adapter and torque. Log your temps.

No, the only sad part is your reading comprehension. We're in agreement.
