So I need a new Engine....

As the title states, the block is cracked and is unable to be repaired, I need to replace the engine. I'm most likely going to get a used engine from another BRZ or FRS. My BRZ is a Manual transmission. My question is does it matter if the car the engine came out of is a A/T or M/T. And does it make a difference if it comes from an FRS since I have a BRZ. As far as I know the Engines are exactly the same between the 2 cars.

If your car is a 2016 or older then there is no difference between frs/brz or Manual/automatic.

Was your car modded?

The car has no mods on it, the engine is completely stock minus a couple tapped spots for gauges. Other than that nothing has been done to it. It is a 2014 so I should be good then with any engine out of an FRS or BRZ right? Someone mentioned something about having to change the pilot bearing but other than that I should be fine, does that sound correct?

Driving at higher RPMs had nothing to do with his issue.

2012-2013 models have different camshafts and valves than the 2014 model. 2015-2016 had some minor changes as well. There might be some more subtle changes internally that I'm not aware of. But the short block still remains the same from 2012 to 2014 (2015 and 2016 might be the same but I'm not 100% sure)

If you're gonna run the factory tune I would suggest getting a complete 2014 engine as it might not work with a different model engine. Or just get a short block if your heads look ok. I know all this because I spun a bearing in my 2014 and got a built short block from Crawford Performance. I also got aftermarket valves but they were a different length and didn't work with the rocker/lifter as they were meant for a 2012-2013 model. My camshaft was also bent and needed to be replaced.

I read that thread and still don't understand what happened.

Basically I removed the plug that was put in by the manufacturer and it was so tight it stripped the threads and cracked the block when I broke it loose. I would be very surprised if the warranty covered this as the damage was technically caused by me.

If that's really what happened, and you did nothing to contribute to the failure, I would have made a warranty claim anyway. A block should not be made of such brittle material that removing a threaded plug cracks it. Unless I'm misunderstanding, that plug is supposed to be removable to allow installation of a third party oil pressure gauge.

At this point you may have done enough other things trying to fix it to complicate the matter. But I think if it were me, I'd still try a warranty claim rather than shelling out several thousand dollars for an engine replacement. I would probably be willing to go to small claims court over it to force the issue.

Hey never hurts to try worst they say is No, I'll file a claim and see what happens. But yes I agree the block should be strong enough to remove a plug without it cracking or stripping the threads...

The biggest mistake was in specifying that type of plug in the first place. I disagree with that choice no matter how long they've used it.

I would think it's cheaper to fix your block than replace the motor. Have you priced that up?
