My HVAC - hot, cold, and not much else . . .

Right around 21 degrees Celsius is where the action is. Between roughly that and HI, the heat output is really not graduated much - it's just hot. Same goes with cold between that and LOW.

Anybody else notice this? I can live with it, but it's just kinda odd and a little annoying.

Yup. No autoclimate means you get 2 settings only.

I usually give a combo of heat and window down to balance out the stuffiness in the winter. In the summer i drive windows down til it gets over 100, and even then if on the freeway the wind is enough

Small cabin size probably has something to do with it.

Honestly the climate control sucks. I want it to blow cool air, so I set it for 62. And the car says "But it's 60 outside, so I'm going to blow hot air." So I turn it to LO, and it freezes me out.

I wouldn't exactly call the 86 cabin small...

It may not be precise, but I've never had a problem keeping it comfortable on either end of the spectrum. Ultimately, I think I prefer dumb controls over digital temp controllers. Since the digital ones don't have sufficient sensors, you invariably wind up with hot or cold spots anyway.

Best reason why I don't want this 'Automatic dual-zone climate control' on any car.

I drive manual transmission to always be in control.

I have manual climate controls so I'm able to be in control of my HVAC as well.

I'm also very comfortable using a real metal key to start my car.

Lots of things on cars currently is just marketing BS. They want us to think we need stuff we really don't need at all.

When the auto climate system works well (as in all my Lancers) it is very nice to set it and forget it and I still curse under my breath every time I have to pull that damned key out of my pocket. Do we "need" them? Of course not, but I miss them sometimes.

I agree with both POVs in this thread... I generally prefer manual temp control over auto, but there is something really fiddley about the FRS's temperature control, and find myself making frequent adjustments.

I'm not "in the business", but I do have a state HVAC Engineer's license, and I keep a small back-stem dial thermometer in the center vent of all of my vehicles. I only have the standard HAVC system in my FRS.

On a 90F summer with the A/C on, I can modulate the air temp from the vent anywhere between about 42F to about 85F.

On a 30 F winter day with the heat on, I can modulate the air temp from the vent from about 40F to 80F.

To be honest the best thing in the car is the seat warmer.....

BTW I don't know why but I hear you talking in this voice.

honestly i use the fan speed to counter this, if i want it warm in the car i set it as best as i can but keep the fan on 1 or 2, 3 or 4 feels like I'm opening an oven. I haven't had the car long enough to test the AC. I realize this isn't a benz lol
