My Keyless Entry Is Working Intermittently - HELP!
Hey guys, new to this site because I just recently obtained a 2013 Scion FR-S 10 Series.
So a few days after I bought the car, I noticed that if I left the car sitting for a few hours or over night, I was not able to open the car with the key fob or with keyless entry. I had to physically open the door with the key. (Note: Car worked fine the first few days. The lock/unlock buttons on the door inside of the car wouldn't work either, couldn't put the car into accessory mode but what is weird is that the car starts up just fine when I press the brake and push-to-start. Now, lets say I drive the car to the commissary or to the gym and come back to the car, everything operates just fine. Now what I'm thinking is that maybe it's a bad battery? but the dealer says the battery was just replaced 2 months ago and the wiring system was checked 2 months ago just as well. Any reason as to why this is happening? Some factors that may contribute: -recently blew one of the 15A 12v cig fuse -parked the car one day for a few hours with the windows down |

Change the fob battery first. It's cheap and easy.
Also, try a different area, some neighbors are problematic. https://jalopnik.com/mans-homemade-e...ods-1834550748

After reading your article though, coud it possibly be an issue that I live on a military base where radio frequencies are constantly being transmitted? |

Second, I doubt that military radio signals are confusing your electronics, unless you are parked beside a commo vehicle.- Yep, like ol @soundman98 suggests, put a new battery in the FOB. If you have a 2nd FOB, change the battery in that one too and give it a try. Also, I suggest you check the appropriate fuses, again. humfrz |

2016 has same problem
Hi;
First off, on June 6, thank you for your service! Was in the Army back in the 70's & a radio operator. The units we used could make a remote control plane go crazy, but autos didn't have the problem. Anyway, my 2016 also has the problem you describe & I thought it was because of the temperature. Tried the spare key, the valet key & the same thing. It must be in the head unit of the car. Hoping someone knows a cheap fix. Enjoy! - Michael |

Operations specialist here. I park next to an RF hotspot, and it works fine. even my old saab's key fob. phone signal though...
The main issue is when the car sits overnight at the house, it wont recognize the key and goes banana's till i put it in the ignition. Doesnt happened recently but for 3 days straight last week it did it. to the point I had to remove the fuses for the horn so it wouldnt wake up the neighbors as 4 am. |

Door lock actuators are known to fail in these cars and it’s a $200 fix.

he might be thinking of one of the BCM's. the head unit doesn't have anything to do with any other system in these cars. it's part of why i have one.

How much driving does the car get? Newish or not, I'd suspect the car 12v. Though changing fob batteries is always worth a check first. Maybe trips are too short so the battery just isn't being charged fully?
