Strange sound coming from gas tank?
Hey guys, I searched and did not find any topics regarding this.
My car was parked over night. I went to get something in my trunk this morning and heard a noise from the gas tank near the exhaust area. A buzzing sound like something was on? After about 15 minutes I heard a pop and the buzzing sound stopped. Is anyone else experiencing this? |

Mutant gas-tank minnows.. seen it a million times. Only way to clear it is with a full tank of Diesel. Keep it under 4k rpm though.. these engines dont like Diesel much.
Kidding, for the love of God do NOT do that. No idea what that noise could have been.. I have a heard gas tanks that vent a little to let out fumes or air pressure from the tank.. could be something like that. |

Probably the evap system doing its normal thing. Look in your owners manual I believe this is addressed. Note that I dont own an FR-S or BRZ but I believe modern evap systems are all fairly similar and they all do ''stuff'' even when the car is off. Im not an expert but I believe you are hearing something that is normal and expected.

It just as @ahausheer said. Probably the EVAP system checking for leaks or possibly the fuel pump priming the system when you woke the vehicle up.
