Trd sway bar bushings?
Bought my frs almost exactly 3 years ago....got the trd sway bars installed front and rear when I bought the car from the dealership ..had a clunky sound from the passenger side recently...brought it 1 the local toyota dealer...they couldn't find the sound or clunky...brought it back and they said it was the steering gear issue...they replaced it...day later..clunky still there....getting worse....brought the frs where I bought the car....after a couple of hrs...dealership said the bushings in the sway bars, front and rear were in need of replacing at $535 and my warranty didn't apply.....I have about 40k on the frs.....is this common replacing bushings in the sway bars after 3 years??...I had other vehicles with sways bars that I didn't replace the bushings after 3 years....and this kinda sucks as it's not covered..which is weird...any1 had experience with trd bushings in the sways?...

Bonkers, <$50 for the new bushings (for 1 end of the car), <1 hour of labor in a competent shop, you can do it in your driveway easy peasy with <$200 worth of tools, they shouldn't charge you more than $200 to replace one set of swaybar bushings, $500+ is highway fucking robbery.
https://www.suprastore.com/trdswbarbu.html http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39003 A few bushings have gone bad but typically sway bar noises have to do with loose end links, I'd bet having those tightened may fix the noise. And if you only hear noise from one end of the car I'd suspect only one end is in need of replacing and wouldn't trust their assertion that you need to replace all four for shit given the price they're charging you. Edit: the only thing that makes sense is if they're charging you for a full set of swaybars again and not just the bushings. |
