Interesting. Mine was delivered to Mike Shaw in Co on 11/21 and it had Michelins on it.

question for you guys.. for anyone who had the out of state dealer calculate and charge the ca tax, did the dealer tax the separate cost of shipping the car to ca, or only the sales price?

Same here. Even if the dealer sets it up, they would or should exclude it from the purchase agreement since it's a variable that could go up. In my case it did, so I secured my own shipper that costs less and could deliver within my schedule.

BTW, I believe most of the shippers are independent businesses anyways and there doesn't appear to be any alliance with dealers. On top of the additional overhead the dealer charge, the dealer's preferred shipper may not have a truck ready to pickup or deliver to your destination.

Mine was added to the purchase price and taxed... Wow I could have saved $65 if I had spent time arranging my own shipper. Meh.

on taxing the separate shipping cost, i got it sorted with the dealer. in CA, taxing the shipping cost is only proper in certain circumstances. where the car has a set sale price, and the cost of shipping is not included in that price, but is a separate charge by a carrier, then the shipping cost shouldn't be taxed. this all changes under different circumstances, though. for example, if the shipping cost is rolled into the sale price and quoted as one price on the bill of sale, then it's probably taxable. see the applicable california regulation and board of equalization FAQ on the issue:

http://www.boe.ca.gov/lawguides/busi...sutr/1628.html

http://www.boe.ca.gov/pdf/pub100.pdf

with those two links, i convinced dealer to not apply sales tax to cost of shipping, which in my bill of sale is a separate charge that the dealer takes from me and passes to the shipping carrier.

oh.. the reason this was a bit more important for me to sort is bc i'm shipping from CT, so shipping costs (and any tax thereon) are more significant.

I guess likewise with the dealer's admin cost which in my case was $600. Taxes on the servicing the transaction.

Something that I forgot to mention for everyone getting their cars shipped from out of state, make sure to check your glove box for two rubber seals. They are used to plug holes under the side sills on each side. They are not installed because the anchors to tie down the car to the truck are there. They are meant to be installed during PDI after delivery.

Mine is MSRP shipped. Whatever the shipping cot would be. Yes, you can say that is taxed with the car.

Got a call few days ago that my WRB has arrived in CO. Will be processing the paperwork in the next day or two and we should be seeing the car at our doorsteps before Christmas.

You guys were right, this is definitely the way to go. I dealt with Heuberger's in Colorado Springs. Their sales, Dave Anthony, who was very familiar with purchasing and shipping vehicles from CO to CA made it the most easiest vehicle purchase I have ever made. I'm also very satisfied with their pricing and professionalism. If anyone wants a BRZ and is sick and tired of the cocky attitudes and ludicrous markups here in California, join the CO>CA cartel!

A big thank you to krudger, pmok, and all the members of the cartel for paving the way and helping me find the car I really wanted.

I received this pic along with the text "Great News!"

Congrats! Yeah, communication is key when dealing 'virtually' so a good salesperson at a great dealer is critical. I had dealt with Dave Anthony a bit before going with another car at another dealer where communication channels could be improved.

Congratulations! The financing and documentation people at Heuberger are pretty helpful and efficient as well. Now the hard part is just waiting for the truck to come...

Hey guys, I just want to ask how much did you pay for shipping from out of state to California and how long was the wait time. I'm trying to factor these into account for negotiating with the stealerships in California. Thank you!
