The car tops at 155, but what does that matter when it a sail boat ride across the pacific to get there? Add to that that Honda can make 240/hp with the same displacement and lower compression, and that was over a decade ago. Obviously I'm not an engineer, so I could be making the argument, "If you can put a man on the moon, why can't you put one on the Sun?"

I've been looking at brakes in between bouts of Autotrader and the classifieds on NASIOC and E46 Fanatics. The brake thread on this site has been wonderful in helping me make an informed decision, as well as the Essex Learning Center: http://www.essexparts.com/support/learning-center--faq

About the clutch, it's how it engages. It engages, it's not very smooth at all. You can finesse it with the pedal, at the cost of clutch material, but I feel for a car as light and as new as this that that shouldn't be the case.

I don't mind the cabin noise so much, and I get the seat placement. The stiff suspension is alright, but I believe it's mostly do to it's short wheel base that the car feels so harsh.

My feelings about this car is that it's less than I feel it should be in all the areas I feel are important. I feel the car should be less expensive than it's selling for, but Toyota has to make money on margins because it's never going to be a high selling vehicle.

I've said in a thread before, bought used for around $15k and this is a spectacular car. Buying it brand new, like I did, is money better spent on used spectacular car.
So why did you buy it ?

Mines a garage queen for sure. Living in Minnesota makes me unable to drive it about 4 months out of the year typically (sometimes more) I have it out right now but it's supposed to snow tomorrow, if it does I switch back to my civic because I don't want to die.

LOL @ a fool who would buy a car not knowing what he's getting. Did you test drive it at all? I was sold the moment I drove it. I had the fast violent cars. Straight lines are OK, but this car bends the curves. I didn't pay a lot for mine. Because I wanted cash for a truck next year, still 26 woulnt be bad for a brand new one I guesd

Used to DD. Changed jobs and driving into the city would take 35 minutes in traffic and then I'd have to pay $20/day to park vs a 30 minute metro ride or 25 minute bike ride. So I drive it around after rush hour and on the weekends. I don't have a lot of miles on the car but those miles are a lot more enjoyable than bumper to bumper traffic.

Daily driver and love it. Quoting because you mentioned the trunk...the other day I could not fit a fairly small pyramid shaped balloon in the trunk and had to drop the back seats down lolol...a balloon!

I test drove one the first time in 2012. It was an automatic, but because I figured that wouldn't matter because I just wanted to see how the car felt. I had a 330Ci with the ZHP package at the time and I thought it felt pretty good compared to that. It didn't have the torque but the brakes felt good and the chassis was nice a stable. I liked it.

Two years later I was driving a GD STi. The dealer allowed me a 24hr test drive so I took them up on it. This car didn't have the special feeling the one I drove in 2012 did, but I still romanticized the idea of own the car since I had wanted one for so long. My dad knows me pretty good so I took the car by him to let him drive it. The first thing he told me, "It doesn't have a lot of ass behind it... I don't think you're going to like this. It accelerates fine, but the oomph just isn't there. I dunno... it's you're money."

I heard him, but the idea of the 86 still won me over. I felt the car would grow on me and I could adjust to being slower if I was driving a car I really wanted.

To wrap this up before the story gets longer, three months after daily driving the car I realized I had made a huge mistake. The idea of the car just didn't match the reality of it. They STi may have changed my driving method, where I had gotten used to clawing out corners I now have to be patient because with this car it's a slow wind instead of an aggressive punch. Had I come from something FF this might feel a little different, I dunno.

A test drive doesn't let you know what it's going to be like to live with the car day in and day out, that only comes from actually doing it. I got unlucky with this one.

Not sure if you got "unlucky" or just suffer from the grass is always greener syndrome (not a slam it is a real thing). The car had appeal and you felt that you could live with it. Obviously you did for a period of time and then you changed your mind and wanted something different. This same thing can happen over and over again though and you may get something with more power and realize that you wanted more luxury or such. Your brain will rationalize the whole thing for you so that you never will recognize what is happening. The car is not the slow sloth that you frequently make it out to be but you have convinced yourself that it is to justify changing to something else. Again not a slam or insult it is just the way the human mind works.

I switch between two cars but the 86 takes more beating. I blame it on the twisted country roads.. Too busy driving it not enough time to clean haha!
