Got my FR-S back last night! The techs were actually done Tuesday night but had to wait for corporate to the the final QC check before it could get released. Since wed was a holiday i had to wait till Yesterday for them to finish. They ended up replacing quite a few parts including the Cam shaft, cam gears, solenoid, sensors and ECU. When they were done, Corp took all my old parts and left. If i had to guess, they will take all my parts and put them into another engine and see if they can reproduce the issue. Also got new oil and all my fluids were topped off as well. They test drove the car for 31 miles after they put her back together. I put another 40+ last night. I asked if i needed to break her in again, and my Service Rep said no. I'm going to err on the side of caution anyways and keep it under 4k rpms till i put a few hundred more miles on. I have a camping trip to Big bear, which is perfect, just hope it doesn't break down on the side of the mountain... No CEL so far, and shes been running smooth.

on a side note: I thought the chrip went away, but after driving around for a bit it was definitely still there. In talking to my sales guy who is a huge car enthusiast, says he told that he talks to a few Toyota engineers and said that the chirp is completely normal according to them.

Found out some other interesting tidbits:
- Toyota Engineers were not actually allowed to work on cars at my service center, and my car was serviced by the local techs

- The parts they changed had to be expedited and were hand delivered.

- They still don't have part numbers in their system, if they went through regular channels the parts would of been back ordered.

- Parts came in Suburu boxes (not surprisingly actually)

She baaaaack!

I was so happy to have her back i didnt check under the hood. The techs left a mess inthe engine bay, spilling coolant all over the place including the headers, now it smells like fluid when the engine warms up. The engine bay didnt have so much as a drop of oil on it, and this is how i get her back? Should I complain to them?

Glad you got you back.

As for the engine bay... it's an engine bay

It's going to get a lot dirtier then that over the next 20k miles.

Yeah it should be easy to clean, but I would take her back and have them clean it. They messed it up...

I may have this issue on mine. No word yet from the dealership after dropping it off late yesterday.

I did note just before the CEL and SlipNSlide lights came on at a stop light that the engine felt like it was rocking from left to right like a big old 1960s American lump with a hot cam. Other than the fact that new cars are now expected to have glass-smooth idle, it felt kinda neat. A little wiggle in her walk.

Maybe this is nothing more than the variable cam timing not resetting properly under some condition, which then triggers a few complaints from the various systems. That's the kind of thing that could theoretically be fixed as a software update in the ECU.

New systems will have issues. So far, I'm looking at this as the dealership's opportunity to demonstrate the service department to me in all its glory.

No callback so far is not a promising start.

Oh, around 700 miles on my FR-S.

We ordered our white-out FR-S around 06-25! Finally got to pick our baby up 08/04. We took it out of the dealership for about 30 to 40 miles and while looking a parking space, our brand new baby shook like a mild southern California earthquake! We didn't think much of it until the CEL came on! Barely got our baby for a good 45 minutes after paperwork this couldn't possibly be! To the service department our baby went! We are extremely miss our brand new baby! We miss her so much! Hopefully TOYOBARU will cure her soon so our baby can come home soon!

That's is totally absurd. I would be furious. I'm dealing with my first CEL after 9+ years of ownership...45 minutes during the first day would have the dealership in flames(even though it isn't their fault).

Nothing more to say other than your situation sucks flaccid rhinoceros dong.

I have been meaning to post a million things I love about the car and my entire experience with it so far....but I have been having too much fun driving it......until I got the same check engine light.

I started the car made it 300 feet when I was waiting for a red light to change and the light came on.

You could tell the car went to about half power. I pulled over into a parking lot becuase I was confused why the stability control and check engine light would come on. I plugged in my ODB wireless dongle and turned on the Torque app on my phone. Of course the app says the following:

P0019 SCION - Crankshaft Position Camshaft Position Correlation Bank 2 Sensor 'B'

The dealership ended up swapping the VVTI solenoids(i think thats what they swapped, I dont have my worksheet from the dealership on me) from left to right to see if the problem followed the solendoid or changed to a different error number. They take it for a test drive and say everything looks good and reset the check engine light.

Pretty much starting the car I get the light again, by this point they are about closed and will no be able to look at it until Monday because they need to speak with Toyota national support which is of course mon-fri. They do confirm that it will be ok to drive for the weekend because the car is basically in "safe mode" which is why it has half the power.

I drove the car through the weekend. I cleared the error code using the Torque app a few times. Of course after clearing the code then restarting the car the car would be back up to full power until the light came on a few minutes later. One time it took almost 30 minutes which was nice to get the car back for a little bit.

I see that one of the possible causes could be dirty oil according to

http://helpforcars.net/obd_codes/p0019_scion.html

I am at 5700 miles so I may bring this up with the dealership even though they denied my first oil change until the 7500.

I will update as soon as I get one.

You're the fifth person I've heard this happen to. I wonder how widespread the issue will turn out to be? Hopefully, it's just a bad batch of supplier components and you'll get your baby back working properly soon.

Unhappy Same issues here

I just wanted to attest to these symptoms. I purchased my FR-S on Saturday, Aug. 4th. I drove it easy keeping the RPM under 4000 and varying the RPM as I drove it the 300 miles back to my home.

When I got to my driveway, put it in neutral and was about to shut off, it had a few severe RPM dips, whole car shook, traction and check engine light on, then it stalled out completely.

I started it again, check engine still on, ran terribly, with frequent RPM dips until it stalled out again.

At that point I let it sit for about 30 minutes, came back and CEL was no longer on, idled fine.

The next morning, drove through town to a friends place. When I got to his place, CEL turned on, almost stalled out but I gassed it to keep it alive. At that point the CEL stayed on all afternoon from that point forward, even when the RPM were stable.

Needless to say, it's at the Toyota service center this morning.
