You're budget covers about anything, and being California I guess you don't have to worry about snow or monsoons. As for 245s, I thought that's what you were thinking which is probably a good fit for the wheels you bought. 235s are hard to find.

You definitely want to run a 35 profile tire, a 45 will increase your tire diameter by 2" (and raise your car up by 1")! If you need the clearance and want to go off road than get a different car.

I don't have experience with that Hankook tire- did you see if Tire Rack did any tests with them?

I myself will probably get the new star specs in a 245/40-17 as my track/autocross tire.

I'm torn between the Pilots and the Conti DW's for a street tire (mostly for looks) in a 225/40-18. I may stay with a 17" street tire though since we have a lot of potholes and bad roads here.

You've got a good set of wheels- put some tires on them and go drive!

One more piece of advice, if you do get out to a track you might learn more from driving these skinny stock tires on the car than big fat sticky ones. Just something to think about!

Have fun!
Good point about the stock wheels. This is why I took so long to buy wheels, I wanted to learn to drive it under factory setting so I can make adjustment to my liking. I didn't want to put wheels on and not understand the drive characteristics. Now that I have ran the canyons quite a few Times I feel I can perform better with sticky tires.

I was thinking about going 17" but after seeing others run them they look small. This makes them slam their ride which makes it look horrible because they sacrifice disability.

Thanks again

I was having a hard time finding correct size tires for 18s so I ended up ordering 17s. With that being said, I'd only run Michelin Pilot Super Sport if my only option was running 18s among other "available" correct size tires.

Thanks for the help.

Vracer111 your post really breaks down the Kosei and is perfect for someone like (who is new to this) to see some of the things to look for when choosing a high performance/ high quality wheel.

MVJ1975 yours goes without saying. I should have picked up on that myself. Japan made >>>> 90% of China made products any day.

Good read man. Thanks
Only issue with the article is its running an 18x7.5 with only one type of tire. For instance the star spec. Tire weight is somewhere around 225lbs wich is pretty heavy. I would love to see this test done with a wider wheel and a lighter tire maybe the hankook EVO thats weight is 22lbs. So with the advans and tires they are at about 43lbs each wheel with a total of 172lbs. The factory wheel (20.4) tire (20) set up is 40.4lbs with a total of 161.6lbs which makes the advan set up 10.4 lbs heavier. I think that with the 57DR gram lights (18lbs) with the hankook EVO K110 (22) this setup will out perform the stock setup with different tires. Total weight is 40lbs and a overall weight of 160lbs which is lighter then stock by 1.6lbs. Now the star spec tires are at 22lbs which makes the stock wheel and star spec tires at 42.4lbs with an over all weight of 169.6lbs. So the gram lights with a wider wheel and lighter tire are 9.6lbs lighter.

I'm running 245/35R18 on my 18x9, perfect diameter.

225/40 is a smidgen tall but also too narrow for these wheels, unless you're a fan of stretch.
235/40 are too tall, same for 245/40
255/35R18 are very close to factory diameter also and will be better suited for a 9" wheel. (if you can fit a 255 upfront, depending on offset you may not)
265/35 are pretty close too, but into uncharted territory, unless running just on rears.

I verified my tire specs on TireRack.com before I purchased.

Check the tires you like versus the OEM diameter (24.7") and revolutions per mile (844) and compare. Do this because all tire brands are a bit different.

well I am actually running a staggered setup; 18x8 front and 18x9 rear.

I figure 225/40 is the way to go for the fronts.

245/35 seems to be perfect but it doesn't seem like there are many options in that size. Not to mention that the tire I was looking at (Dunlop DZ101) isn't offered in that size.

255/35 looks like it works well but I don't know if I want that much tire back there. I mean, this particular set is mainly for looks, so maybe I shouldn't sweat it.

Recommendation on tire size...

I'm not sure what size tire I should go with on my BRZ without rubbing. I have the RCE yellows installed and am now looking to match some treads/wheels to my car. I have a set of four 18x8.5 rims (see specs below), I need to buy some rubber for them and I want some meat on my wheels, I'm not looking for low profile bricks. Can anyone give me some suggestions. I was thinking 235/40 18s square, so I can rotate my tires and also not rub my fenders or strut housing. I will post a pic once I get them mounted on the car. By the way, the wheels look so much better in person than the photos I've seen posted.

MRR/Eurotek UO3
Size: 18 8.5
bolt pattern: 5x100
offsets 38
Finish: Hyper black
Hub centric 56.1 to the FRS/BRZ

235/40 would be alright, 245/35 would be my pick though.

I would run a 255 on the back. My 245's look a teeny stretched so the 255 would fit better.

225 sounds good on the front with 8" width wheels.
