I'd rather have a Veloster Turbo for $2,500 less, FWD or not. It will be as quick or quicker, have boost and come with more options standard. Sure it won't handle as well, but I also don't live on a canyon so it's not as big a deal to me.

Oh and don't forget the increaese of 8MPG highway for the Veloster Turbo.

Hmmm, Toyota lost me on this one....for now.

Wait on the BRZ pricing and standard options comparison between the two before I pick.

Even though my guesstimation was $23,900...I was hoping I'd be wrong in the -opposite- direction.

Seems like for most people the sweet spot for this car is 22.5-23.5 makes sense considering its the base model.

P.s maybe toyota should have spent less money building concepts that we were never going to get and saved us all some extra money.

I am 39 and I see this the FR-S as a "3rd car". Something to have fun with when not using the sedan to move family, shopping, etc.

We have an older Camry (2006) and a 2012 GLI. Those will continue to do what they do, while the FR-S will be fun to drive (I love RWD cars).

Sounds like the bean-counters in the head office won the debate on pricing. Exactly where are the price savings coming from on bringing Subaru into the mix on this car?

I'll just wait on one to hit the used lot with sub 10k miles. Good friend is the sales manager at the local Toyota used lot anyways.

Edit: Heh...a brand new GT-S back in 1985 was ~12,000...thats $25,000 in today's money.

I swear to god if hear one more person compare this car to a gtr or a 911 I'm going to jump off a bridge. This car is a 25k investment. The 2012 gtr is what? near 90k. Take your extra 65 thousand dollars and pump it into the fr-s and then your ass, and tell me it's not a sports car. Compare it to a miata, compare it to a rx-8, compare it to a boxter, but don't try to knock this car by comparing it with cars that cost 3 times as much. There is a reason that every single car review of the 86 sings high praises; it is because this thing is the real deal. If you've never driven a rear drive, light weight, SPORTS CAR, with very little electronic interference, then you have no idea what you are talking about when you talk about this car.

Haha maybe, but the FR-S is likely a better DRIVER's car than the Rex :P

I considered getting a WRX256 for a while to replace a Mazda3 hatch (before they put all the crazy STi bits on it) but I just couldn't pull the trigger on either one since in my heart I'm really in the market for a sports car.

To me, the WRX just has too much of a high and upright seating position, too much roll+squat+dive while not really being especially quiet and comfortable, vague-ish shifter and steering, wider turning circle, and too many doors. It's not even close to being in the same class of car so I can't imagine cross-shopping it with an FR-S unless price was the only criteria.
