GRMN has lots small things that u wont get in the normal engine. Just like how a GT350 engine is gonna be different from a GT coyote V8.

Same block, and they just swap the internals in the engine and the 1-2 cross gears in the trans. I think thats the only trans change. I remember seeing an article that 100 cars were taken from the assembly line and shipped to GRMN which is close by. Hope someone recorded the process, I'd love to see the process.

The closest thing on inter net now. Ask & you shall receive?
The entire build process in actually done in Toyota motor city instead of subaru Gunma factory. So... it's actually handbuild unlike ours.
(PS: looks like the paint on this car is actually expensive.....unlike ours.. >__>)

As a one off/limited, hand built production vehicle the paint would be exempt from the lowered VOC requirements in place for production vehicles since late 2012. This of course will make the paint better. Our paint is not poor due to cost or because it is "cheap" but because it has to meet the worldwide environmental protection car requirements. The laws on reduction simply out paced the tech for paint and it will take a few years for them to catch up. We will see good paint again in the near future.

Thank you Tcoat for sharing this knowledge 👍
It's really good to know paint will get better again. 😄

Those side vents look functional, but the metal behind them doesn't look cut up / open. Pretty neat pieces.

Some light reading:

Older and pretty technical but informative. The rules are way tighter now
http://publishing.cdlib.org/ucpresse...&brand=ucpress

More up to date but not as technical. Shows the tech is catching up.

Really explains why we hear so much "my xxx paint was fine but this new stuff is crap" about Japanese cars

If the paint is going to improve that markedly, I want to know when I can go ahead and get my car re-painted in such a way that I don't have to be as nervous any time a truck pulls in front of me on the highway.

Well see there is the trick. The paint shops that repaint are not controlled by the VOC requirements (yet). There is no reason that a repaint should not be as sturdy as the paint in the past. Not like they actually buy the same stuff as the factory uses. Get it repainted and let them know you want a nice heavy coat (or better yet several thinner ones) of clear.

Why to re-paint the car? You can just wrap it and job done. And you can use your imagination of what to choose or you can just wrap it with a single color. Check the procedure here:

Interesting....Maybe next time I get some disposable income (sometime in the spring) I can make this happen.

As I understand it, wrapping the car can cost more than repainting, plus it wont last for the lifetime of the car. I'm good, thanks.
