40 MPG? - Page 7 - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

Oddly enough, I filled up this morning, had about 2 miles surface streets then about 7 miles of freeway and I ended up around 41 mpg (MT).

EDIT: I've noticed that the car tends to calculate about 2mpg higher than I actually end up getting.

I had 40 when I drove mine home from the dealer in salt lake city to western iowa. It was like a 16 hour drive with all highway miles. Now I get like 20 on e85

Hyper mile recipe:
Cruise control (no brakes or variances in speed)
Level or downhill road
Wind behind you
Cool temp for denser air molecules
Half a tank of gas
No passengers or cargo
Properly inflated tires
Highest gear/low RPMs
No air conditioning
Closed windows
Skinny driver

I'm pretty sure I could squeeze 40MPG out of my FR-S if I wanted to...problem is I don't want to. I have too much fun NOT getting 40MPG to be bothered trying.

Current average for my A/T is 18.5MPG, but the best I have ever managed was 29MPG on a inter state trip. How the hell you get over 30 is mind boggling >.<"

Probably need to stop treating every tank like it could be my last!

It's the opposite, you don't want increased air density for better MPG as this increases drag on the car. The engine is also more thermodynamically efficient with higher intake temperatures (at the expensive of power, which is this case isn't whats needed).

My Golf TDI has visibily better fuel economy during the warmer months of the year.

I hit 40 MPG during weekly commutes on the highway.

It's mostly because during rush hour traffic moves at 80-90 km/h, which is great for fuel economy

I'm trying really hard to get more than 30. Every time I get in the driver seat, it kept telling me "I'm not your mom's Prius or your pal's hybrid Civic. Don't you dare drive me like one".

I definitely didn't get it for the mileage, and there's nothing in the price range I'd rather have!

Really. Because I like throwing away my money.

We're appreciating the tech for what it can do. Nobody's going to brag about burning through 3/4 tank in 80 minutes.

I did an experimental tank to see what I could do. I wonder if it has anything to do w/ the altitude in Utah.
