I sold my Man trans Supra and Bought a Solara with AT.

WHY?
I commuted ~4 hours per day in bumper to bumper traffic.
My knee had had enough.
I also drive in snow a LOT, so Solara offers traction control in AT ONLY.
Would I have bought a AT BRZ? no but only becasue my commute is now 30 minutes each way in the hills surrounding Boulder, CO.
To each his own.

Alfa 4c = Auto
Jaguar F-Type = Auto
Nissan GT-R = DCT = Auto
Ferrari 458 = DCT = Auto
LaFerrari = DCT = Auto
Corvette C7 z06 = Manual or Auto, but the auto is faster
Koenigsegg Agera - DCT = Auto
All new McLarens = DCT = Auto
I am sensing a pattern here, not sure what it is though...

If pushing the clutch and shifting gears makes you feel like a superior person then by all means go for it, but nobody really cares.

As for the purpose of the thread before people with no valid or constructive opinions get involved, you probably have close to 180-185HP and will only hit 200 once you go E85. Nice build though and glad you are doing what you want with the car, that is what it is designed for.

you do realize dct isn't an automatic gear box right? I know it helps your argument to classify it but they are basically a manual gearbox.

fyi i just bought a 2015 brz in a MT. @Tcoat @Ultramaroon

Atticus has "Fuck You" status now.
Like all other people who drive standard.
So the gist of his post was pretty much: Fuck You.

Guy: I just won the lottery!
Standard Driver: Fuck you, I drive a manual.

If you read the whole thing you would have noticed my homage to this concept.. Same reason power steering was invented. Conveniences. The problem is that cars are going to become so convenient that we will be able to just plop down in them and think about where we want to go and the car will take us there. While this idea is cool it will probably end up killing off the cars that a lot of us love to drive. The FR-S of 2025 will probably drive itself spiritedly and everyone will want one..

OP: my condolences re: your grandfather. Do your grandmother a favor. Make sure you can pay your lease, insurance and maintenance fees BEFORE you start to spend alot of money modding your car.

The only real advantage the manual have over the auto performance wise is launching. I personally feel if the auto had a launching program it would be a 0-60 in 6.3 second car. The 5-60 time between a manual and auto is 7.8-7.9 seconds with no launching involved. In other words fellas our cars are just slow(still fun as hell though) no matter the tranny. DCT's usually have a launching capability which helps make its acceleration look remarkable. Also Auto's and DCT's respond well to torquey engines too.

I've had over 45 cars, majority of them manual, my car I traded in for this manual.Do I miss it yes, Do I love manual yes, Is it more fun yes... now here are some pro's of having an auto... I have poor credit and my family wouldn't co sign other wise... GOT EXTREMELY LUCKY!! wasn't going to turn down new car over tranny so here I am in a auto, however 75 percent of time i'm using tiptronic , which is like manual etc
I know I need to GO TO WORK, BUILD CREDIT and RIP OFF MY NEON LIGHTS and strangle myself with them for buying an auto, but after done that, I'm going to enjoy my car
Enjoy.

I did read the whole post, and yes, I did, somewhat, take that small quote out of context. And I did iut on purpose. I really wasn't aiming my comment at you, but the quote was such a perfect vehicle for me to lead into my snarky remark about the whole "man machine connection" mentality that is winding through this thread.

BTW, my FRS is a manual, and I have continously owned at least one manual car for 60 years. My DD for over 25 years has been a series of compact pickups, all manuals. My '11 Taco is the first auto tranny truck I have ever owned.

I drive manuals just because I like it. I have no illusions that they are "better". And I really do like electric starters!

Also, another pro is that I can go out to the bar with my girlfriend, have a few too many beers with dinner and toss her the keys. I don't need to worry about her burning out a clutch, grinding gears or needing to teach her to drive manual. All I have to worry about is her crashing it, which would be fine with me. I wouldn't mind an insurance payout.
Even if my car was auto I wouldn't let my wife drive it. I've seen the state of her Mazda's hubcaps. I couldn't submit my wheels to that kind of punishment.

If my car was a daily driver I'd have considered the auto with paddles. I haven't driven one, but I've heard they are actually not bad. Auto is great for A - B driving. Especially if you live or work in the city.

My wheels cost less than 200 per piece, I rashed a bit of my front right wheel, girlfriend put the rash almost all the way around and she did some of the back wheel too. It's not a big deal to me, my current wheels will end up being winter wheels Since I'm getting a new set some time in the near future.

It depends on what your definition of automatic is.
If it runs with a Programmed Logic Controller, it is an automatic.
DCT is automatic.
